Interactive Whiteboard Demonstrations
Kim Sochan and Tammy Jedra, two BOCES special education teachers at Auburn High School, demonstrate some of the tools they use on the interactive whiteboard, the only one in the high school, on Tuesday, Nov. 24 2009. Crow Hazing
Over the course of ten days in November, crews from Auburn's Department of Public Works engaged in the city's annual crow hazing program. Workers drove the crows from their nesting places around the city using a combination of lasers, pyrotechnics, and loud crow distress calls.

Powder Puff Football: A New Tradition
Every fall for the past four years, girls at Cato-Meridian High School have battled on the gridiron to benefit the junior class. The games, complete with football team members working as coaches and cheerleaders, are becoming a cherished tradition at the school.

Poetry Reading
Over 20 high school students gathered at The Cayuga Museum on Thursday, Oct. 15 2009, to read their original poetry in the first session of an off shoot of the fall and spring poetry readings hosted by the YMCAs Writer's Voice Group and The Cayuga Museum.
An open session for everyone will be held on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 at 7 p.m. at museum.

Boats for Iraq
Weedsport-based Alpha Boats Unlimited was awarded a contract to provide Iraq's Ministry of Water Resources with five aquatic weed harvesters.
On September 30, a delegation of Iraqui engineers tested one of the boats on the Seneca River.

Red Cross Babysitter Training
The Cayuga County Chapter of the American Red Cross held a babysitting workshop for students during their winter break.
After two days of learning basic childcare techniques, emergency procedures and interviewing skills, students earned Red Cross babysitting certificates.

Auburn Police Requesting Public’s Help with Identifying Purse Theft Suspect
On February 17th, 2009 at approximately 4:20pm Auburn Police Officer’s were dispatched to 1 Loop
Rd “Wegmans” on the report of a purse theft. The victim advised Officers that she was sitting on a
bench in the lobby of the store waiting to be picked up. The victim stated she placed her purse on the
bench next to her and when her ride arrived she accidentally left her purse sitting on the bench.
When the victim walked outside she quickly remembered she left her purse behind and immediately
returned to retrieve her purse. This is when she discovered her purse was gone.
Officer’s along with Wegmans lost prevention personnel reviewed the security footage and describe
the suspect observed in the footage stealing the purse as a white male, possibly in his 30’s. The
suspect stands about 6’00” tall and was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, blue
jeans and a dark colored hat. The hat appeared to have some type of emblem in the center of the hat
and the sweatshirt also had some type of print or logo over the left chest area. The suspect may also
have goatee style facial hair.
Attached is a video clip and still photos of the suspect entering the store. Anyone who has
information pertaining to the identity of this suspect or this crime is encouraged to call the Auburn
Police Department at 253-3235, or lead investigator Det. Douglas Parker at 255-4726.

Baby Yoga
Bonita Shear conducts a yoga class for children as young as 15 months at Champions for Life as part of a program called Branches. The class, different from most yoga classes due to it's age group still includes yoga poses, stretches, and a short meditation, though with a childlike tweak.

Elbridge Homicide
On Tuesday, July 22, New York State Troopers responded to the report of a body having been found in the backyard of a home in the Town of Elbridge. The couple living there were believed to have been murdered by their son. The next day a press conference was held.

Career Connections Camp 2008
The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES hosts the 2008 Career Connections Camp for students entering seventh, eighth and ninth grade in the fall. When work runs dry
With events such as the 2006 closure of the Bombardier plant in Auburn, and SCHOTT on its way out by the end of this year, unemployment is on the rise in Cayuga County. Monthly unemployment rates have been higher over the previous year since December, and the people looking for jobs say the numbers don't lie.

Late Thursday afternoon a package was found by road crews at exit 40 of the New York State Thruway. Weedsport Police and State Troopers responded.

City Closes Fire Station
City Manager Mark Palesh announced Tuesday afternoon that Auburn's easternmost fire station would be closing, effective immediately. Firefighters at the station located at the corners of Frederick and Augustus streets and Lake Avenue will now be stationed at one of the city's two remaining stations. No jobs were cut, and the city will maintain the minimum 15 firefighters per shift.
State of the City and State of the County speeches
On March 27th 2008 members of the Auburn and Cayuga County community came to hear The State of the City and The State of the County addresses by their respective managers. Topics included physical improvements, proposed projects, budget concerns, and the efficiency of the governmental bodies.
