WegmansSuspect thumbnail Auburn Police Requesting Public’s Help with Identifying Purse Theft Suspect

On February 17th, 2009 at approximately 4:20pm Auburn Police Officer’s were dispatched to 1 Loop

Rd “Wegmans” on the report of a purse theft. The victim advised Officers that she was sitting on a

bench in the lobby of the store waiting to be picked up. The victim stated she placed her purse on the

bench next to her and when her ride arrived she accidentally left her purse sitting on the bench.

When the victim walked outside she quickly remembered she left her purse behind and immediately

returned to retrieve her purse. This is when she discovered her purse was gone.

Officer’s along with Wegmans lost prevention personnel reviewed the security footage and describe

the suspect observed in the footage stealing the purse as a white male, possibly in his 30’s. The

suspect stands about 6’00” tall and was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, blue

jeans and a dark colored hat. The hat appeared to have some type of emblem in the center of the hat

and the sweatshirt also had some type of print or logo over the left chest area. The suspect may also

have goatee style facial hair.

Attached is a video clip and still photos of the suspect entering the store. Anyone who has

information pertaining to the identity of this suspect or this crime is encouraged to call the Auburn

Police Department at 253-3235, or lead investigator Det. Douglas Parker at 255-4726.

City Manager Mark Palesh announced Tuesday afternoon that Auburn's easternmost fire station would be closing, effective immediately. Firefighters at the station located at the corners of Frederick and Augustus streets and Lake Avenue will now be stationed at one of the city's two remaining stations. No jobs were cut, and the city will maintain the minimum 15 firefighters per shift.
