William Dolan - Administration Liaison
Mission: The mission of YAP is to give to young adults something many inmates never had - the opportunity to organize their thoughts so they might organize their lives and have a chance. The YAP program provides a way for the inmates to make a valuable contribution to society.
Facilitators: YAP inmate facilitator criteria are very stringent. A year-long orientation and training is required and final acceptance requires an unanimous vote by the existing membership.
Program Description: The afternoon session held at the prison seeks to encourage young people to stay out of prison by staying in school, avoiding negative peer pressure and staying away from drugs. The session consists of inmate facilitatorsı personal presentations, socio or psycho-dramas, one-on-one and group discussions, communication exercises and questions and answers.
Who May Attend & When: Young people ages 13 to 18, in groups of up to 20 plus 6 adults, meet each Wednesday to participate in the program. An annual seminar is held in May to familiarize adults, educators and others with the program and to book groups for the next school year.
