Mission: To inspire in girls the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism and service that they may become happy and resourceful citizens.
Services: Girl Scouts is an informal educational organization dedicated solely to girls. Accepting and nurturing Girl Scout environments encourage girls in small groups to build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with trained and dedicated leaders girls develop qualities that will serve them all of their lives - such as strong values, a social conscience, and the conviction of their own potential and self-worth. The Girl Scout - Seven Lakes Council special programs include Especially for You, a family life education program, and Bayberry Environmental Education Center. The council maintains five program centers, including Yaiewano Program Center located on Owasco Lake south of Auburn. Activities for 5 program age levels are offered to include every girl, everywhere, from ages 5 - 17.
Volunteer Opportunities: Troop/Group Leader, Teen Advisor, Program Consultant, Recruitment Assistant, Communications Coordinator - contact Lisa Kaminski.
Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm (office hours). Activities for girls most often take place in the evenings and on weekends.

Coordinator, E-mail:kk4313@dfa.state.ny.us Mission: The Center, operated by NYS Office of Children & Family Services, is a juvenile residential facility for adolescent females remanded to state custody and care from family court. The center consists of a building containing living units, as well as a clinic, NYS accredited educational program, administrative and other offices. Another building houses the regulation size gymnasium, media center and library. An extensive outdoor recreation area is adjacent to the facility. The facility also supervises one community residential home in Syracuse, housing the pregnancy unit.
Services:
Core Services - General education, remedial and special education, OJT work/educational assignments, employment/vocational training, nutritional/dietary services, health services, counseling services including individual and group, substance abuse counseling, ad hoc psychological services, womenıs history resource center, and teen pregnancy education program.
Special Services - Gender specific programming, GED program, youth over age 16 (residential), Innervisions- substance abuse prevention education, independent living skills program, ART/Moral reasoning, structured learning & anger control, leisure recreational activities, physical education classes, parenting education, abuse awareness & prevention curriculum, specialized substance abuse counseling provided by outside contractor, access to community school & services, AIDS/HIV prevention education, family visits, religious services, facility service/volunteer program, release planning to community residential homes, and community residential living.
Volunteer Opportunities: Prefer mature individuals who would be comfortable tutoring basic math and reading skills to educationally disadvantaged youth.

Mission: A community coalition that seeks to reduce the incidence of breast, cervical, colorectal, and prostate cancers through early detection and education.
Services: All services are provided free of charge to eligible individuals.
Breast and cervical cancer screening services - include instruction regarding breast self-examination, clinical breast examinations, mammograms, and pelvic examinations with pap smears. To be eligible, you must be: 1. age 40 or older; 2. medically uninsured or underinsured (i.e. have a prohibitive deductible, or limited coverage); and 3. meet income guidelines.
Colorectal and prostate cancer screening services - include instruction regarding risk factors and screening procedures, annual testing for colorectal cancer via FOBT kits and follow-up examinations (colonoscopies). To be eligible, you must be: 1. age 50 or older OR younger than age 50, with family history of polyps or colorectal cancer; 2. medically uninsured or underinsured (i.e. have a prohibitive deductible, or limited coverage); and 3. meet income guidelines.
Educational presentations available to service clubs, churches, and other community organizations.
Hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm; summer hours (July and August) 8:00am - 4:00pm.

Services: Helping Hands Transportation provides transportation for the elderly and wheel-chair bound individuals of Cayuga County. This service is to fulfill the transportation needs of these individuals for medical, dialysis treatments, hospital discharges, or other personal appointments. Transportation is available for Medicaid eligible people. Full door-to-door service provided.

Mission: Residential treatment facility designed to meet the needs of severely emotionally disturbed children and adolescents age 10-18 from 23 counties throughout New York State.
Services: Care includes 24-hour supervision, intensive clinical services for children and families, individualized special education and highly structured group living experience. Services include assessments, psychiatric and psychological services, medical treatment, recreation and art therapy, and special education.

Mission: Hospice provides support and services to individuals and their families facing end-of-life illness. Hospice provides care in patientsı homes and offers services to area health care providers including Matthew House, Cayuga County Nursing Home and Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Services: Focus is on physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs of the patient and his/her family. Offers home nursing, physician services, social work, pastoral counseling, medication, medical equipment, special therapies for families/caregivers, and bereavement services for 13 months following the patientıs death. Camp Hearts AıHoy, a bereavement camp for children is held at Camp Y-Owasco.
A physician must certify that the patient has six months or less to live. Generally curative treatments have been exhausted. A primary caregiver able and willing to manage responsibility for the patient is needed. Anyone can make a referral to Hospice, including family members, friends, discharge planners or the patientıs physician. Hospice covers all of Cayuga County and the townships of Skaneateles, Spafford and Elbridge in Onondaga County.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Human Services Coalition of Cayuga County is to bring together human service providers, public and private organizations, and individuals to address the needs of the community through interagency coordination, information sharing and collaboration.
Services: The Coalition maintains a website which contains the Living in Cayuga County Community Directory, Grant availability information, Volunteer Opportunity postings, Needs Assessment data and the Human Services Coalition List Serve. Annually, in September, The Citizen publishes the Coalitionıs Living in Cayuga County Community Directory which is distributed throughout the county. In conjunction with the United Way, the Coalition offers skill-based seminars and training to agency staff, citizen members and non-profit boards of directors. Bi- weekly articles highlighting member agencies and programs appear in The Post Standard. Other activities involve compiling and disseminating information - State and County Budget surveys, mental health & substance abuse services, etc.
Task Groups: Adult/Transportation, Elderly/Disabled, Children and Family, Needs Assessment, and Media Services task groups are comprised of Coalition members, other human service providers and the public, and generally meet monthly.
Membership: Human services agencies and individuals may join the Coalition for a modest membership fee - $35.00/agency and $5.00/individual. Contact Barbara Bowen at (315) 253-9743 if you would like a membership application.
Coordinating Council: The Coordinating Council is comprised of 15 members elected by the membership of the Coalition and the task group chairs. The Council meets monthly, except during July and August. The meetings are always open to the public. The Annual Meeting of the Human Services Coalition is in October when new council members are elected and officer selected.

Funding: The Coalition is partially funded by the City of Auburnıs Office of Planning and Economic Development (Community Development Block Grant Program), Cayuga County Health & Human Services, and the United Way. Membership fees are collected. The United Way of Cayuga County provides administrative support and in-kind services.
