Mission: The purpose of this specialized court is to provide a framework for a coordinated response to domestic violence offenses to open the lines of communication among all effected agencies, to enhance the safety of all victims of domestic violence including children, to provide necessary alcohol/substance abuse and/or mental health treatment, counseling and intervention for defendants, to ensure compliance by defendants with court ordered sanctions by judicial monitoring and ultimately to reduce the rate of recidivism for those convicted of domestic violence crimes.
Services: This Court, which opened May 1, 2003, has a key component - monthly compliance review hearings for those defendants convicted of a domestic violence offense. The Court will monitor court ordered services involving ³RESPECT" (battererıs program), alcohol/substance abuse treatment and mental health services.
Offenders are sentenced to compliance review hearings as part of a conditional discharge or a sentence of probation imposed by the Court. Sanctions for violations include incarceration for failure to comply with the Courtıs sentence.
The Domestic Violence Court also offers services and safety planning to victims of domestic violence through victim advocates provided by the Cayuga/Seneca Community Action Agency, Domestic Violence Intervention Program, and the Victim/Witness Service through the Cayuga County District Attorneyıs Office.

Mission: The mission of Auburn Drug and Alcohol Treatment Court is to address problems of alcohol, substance abuse and associated criminal behavior in our community, through the treatment and intensive supervision of qualified non-violent offenders. Our treatment court will afford participants an opportunity to confront and overcome their alcohol/drug addictions, thereby restoring dignity and self-esteem while reducing their rate of recidivism for criminal behavior.
Services: Treatment Courts are a unique partnership of the Court system, prosecutors, defense attorneys and drug and alcohol treatment providers, all working together collaboratively toward a common goal of assisting a criminal offender in becoming addiction free and re-entering society as a functioning contributing member.
Offenders admitted to Treatment Court are required to sign a contract, drug and alcohol treatment is mandatory, testing for compliance takes place both in Court and out of Court. Participants are supervised by the Court on a weekly basis.
Treatment Courts have proven successful in communities throughout the State of New York in rehabilitating offenders with drug and alcohol addictions.
Referrals: Referrals are made to the treatment court by Judges, District Attorneyıs office, defense attorneys, Auburn Police Department, Sheriffıs Department, and other criminal justice programs.

Early Intervention - Home and Center Based services provided by Special Educators, and Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapists for children birth to three years of age. Toddler and Parent Groups available to all children and families from the community on a space available basis.
Preschool- The Auburn Center Based Preschool Program serves children three to five years of age from the community, the Universal Pre-K Program of the Auburn Enlarged City School District, and those identified with special needs, in an integrated model. The Universal Pre-K Programs at Fillmore Elementary School in Moravia and Port Byron Elementary School serve children four years of age. The curriculum is based on developmentally appropriate practices with an emphasis on child-centered activities and is aligned with the N.Y.S. Standards. Classes are half-day (2 1/2 hours) and may have up to 18 students. Certified teachers teach all classes with a co-teaching model.
Preschool Services- Available from all professional areas on an itinerant basis to community-based programs throughout the service area.
Therapy Services- Provided to area school districts on a contract basis and available to families privately.
Medicaid Service Coordination- Based on the principal of a ³Person Centered Approach" to planning. The principal keeps the individual and his or her aspirations and abilities the focal point in the planning process. A Service Coordinator is a person chosen by an individual, his or her family or guardian, who will assist the person in identifying the type of help needed to attain his or her goals and aspirations. The Service Coordinator will then assist in accessing the types of services and supports identified. This is a Medicaid funded program operated under OMRDD.
Day Habilitation- The purpose of Day Habilitation is to develop an individualized service environment for each person to participate in. Each consumer will work with their Service Coordinator to determine which community based services they would like to build upon for a fully integrated schedule of experiences. Day Habilitation is not a traditional day program, rather an opportunity without walls to focus on the needs of the individuals. Individuals make rewarding connections and relationships within their community. Most activities take place outside of the home. This is a Medicaid Waiver program operated under OMRDD.
Residential Habilitation- Services help individuals with daily life activities and are usually provided within the home environment. In the Individualized Service Plan, a person has identified meaningful outcomes. This is a Medicaid Waiver program operated under OMRDD.
SUCCESS BY 6- A national initiative that is ³dedicated to using the best of a communityıs resources to help all children succeed." Locally, a Success By 6 Community Awareness Action Team has been formed, with members representing many of the communityıs human service organizations. The committeeıs goal is to involve any and all organizations and businesses to promote and support early childhood development action plans in all areas of a childıs life, including health and safety, education, physical and emotional development, literacy, family and community support.

Increasing Parent Involvement in Schools - EPIC trains school administrators, staff, and parents in strategies and techniques to strengthen partnerships between home and school.
Ready, Set, Read - A series of workshops designed to increase family literacy by teaching parents how their children learn to read, and how to use this knowledge to encourage childrenıs brain development, love of reading, and academic success.

Mission: To provide recreational opportunities to children with disabilities.
Services:
Freedom Camp - An integrated summer day camping experience for children with disabilities. Two, 2-week sessions during the summer. Freedom Camp is held at the Casey Park Recreational Facility on N. Division St. in Auburn. Camp is open to children with developmental and other defined and documented disabilities.
Freedom Riders - An eight-week program divided into two four-week sessions. Classes are held at Skaneateles Equestrian Center on Franklin Street Road. Students are taught all aspects of horsemanship from care and feeding, etiquette in the ring and much more. The fee is $50.00 for 4 weeks.
Sibshops - This group was formed to allow the non-disabled siblings to interact with other children who also have a special needs sibling. It is a peer support group that meets every other month. The participants become aware that they are not the only ones with a special needs sibling, and that they share many of the same frustrations and concerns as the other participants.
