For many people, their household pets are part of the family. So why not include them in the family holiday photos?

Dickman Farms in Auburn will be hosting pet portraits with Santa on Sunday.
Area pet owners will have a chance to do just that when the local SPCA holds its annual fundraiser. On Sunday, the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York will have Santa Claus on hand to take photos with your pets.
Proceeds from the afternoon event, which takes place at Dickman Farms, will go toward funding the organization's Auburn animal shelter.
Those who show up and order a photo for $10 will receive a 4-by-6 inch picture in a framed card.
“We try to promote the idea of having the whole family (in the photo),” said Carol Russell, executive director of the local SPCA.
“It's a great thing to send out in your holiday greeting cards,” Russell said.
The SPCA has been holding the fundraiser for about 10 years. Russell said it has taken place at various locations, but the farm's “beautifully decorated” greenhouse makes it the ideal location.
So far, there have been only dogs and cats. But Russell said the SPCA won't turn anyone away, whether they have, boa constrictors or ferrets.
“I don't care what you've got, you can bring it,” she said.
Russell said the SPCA is always seeking donations and raising funds. As economic times get tighter, shelters feel the strain as more people abandon their animals and funding sources dry up.
This money will go directly to the animals in the shelter, paying for medical care, food or any other needs. The local shelter currently houses about a dozen dogs, and is overflowing with cats and kittens, Russell said. There are also three dogs and seven puppies in foster care.
“We're not exempt from the economic situation,” said Russell, who added that the shelter does not receive public support.
For those who don't have pets or don't want to bring them to the event, but would still like to contribute, Russell said the organization always takes any contribution.
“I don't care what it is, a bag of cat food, a bag of litter or $5,” she said. “We are grateful for every donation.”
