HIT: To the apparent defeat of the new license plate requirement in New York state.
After intense opposition had been voiced from residents around the state, Albany leaders over the weekend signaled that thy intended to drop a plan to require all New Yorkers to get new license plates - and pay $25 for them - in an effort to raise money for the general fund.
The good news is that the plate plan appears to have been scrapped. We remain concerned, however, that leaders have also said they will come up with a way to replace the revenue the plate plan would have created. So stay tuned - but enjoy this small victory while you can.
MISS: To a gut-wrenching loss by the Syracuse University football team Saturday at Louisville.
The Orange, severely depleted by injuries, players being suspended and players who have quit, had managed to put itself in a great position to win. But a Louisville offense that had been completely shut down the entire game came up with a winning drive at the end of the fourth quarter.
The loss officially makes Syracuse ineligible for a bowl game.
HIT: To the home electronics recycling event held Saturday at the Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Auburn.
Home electronic devices that no longer work can be extremely toxic, so it's good to have events like these to help people get rid of them responsibly.
HIT: To the Auburn Education Foundation, for lining up best-selling author and humanitarian Greg Mortenson to give a talk at Auburn High School in the spring.
Mortenson, a Nobel Peace Prize finalist, is one of the most sought-after speakers in the country. Head to www.auburnedfoundation.org to learn more about him and even buy tickets.
