HIT: To all of the great Veterans Day ceremonies held throughout the region on Wednesday. From Victory to Auburn, local veterans received well-deserved tributes.
This Veterans Day was different because of the formal dedication of Route 38 as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway of Valor. The inspiration for this honor came from a veteran who lives in Victory.
A local Marine who died in Afghanistan last year was honored with the formation of a scholarship.
Whether it was a ceremony or a trip to the cemetery to pay one's respects, it's good to see veterans honored for their service to our country.
MISS: To an incident earlier this week where a car was destroyed by a train at an intersection of a street and train tracks in Auburn. Fortunately, the driver of the car was not hurt.
From police reports, it appears the train was following proper procedure to let people know it was close by. Still, something went wrong. It needs to be investigated to make sure this kind of accident doesn't happen again.
HIT: To the appearance today of a local home on a real estate segment on the “Today” show on NBC. It can be difficult to sell a house these days, even tougher when the house carries a big price tag because of its history and current condition.
The appearance on the TV show will give the house - and the area - some national attention.
HIT: To Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim on winning his 800th game this week.
While the game was less than thrilling (an easy win over a much weaker Albany team), 800 is an incredible number of wins for a basketball coach.
As heir apparent Mike Hopkins, a member of Boeheim's staff for more than a decade, continues to wait in the wings, we'll continue to marvel at Boeheim's decades of success and watch the wins pile up.
