Why are hunters being allowed to hunt in front of Emerson Park lakeside? Sunday we walked to Deauville Island and were confronted by two mens with guns -- this should be stopped before someone gets hurt.
I plan on voting no (on the Auburn schools capital project proposal) -- it will be up to the school board if they can pare it down. If facts run true, they might put the same thing up again; I guess they better learn a lesson from the public.
Hitler promised hope and prosperity, while Obama promised change and prosperity. Both could do this because they controlled everything people could eat, build, buy, own, medical care, etc.

"A federal district court ruled today that a special Christian license plate mandated by the South Carolina legislature violates the constitutional separation of church and state.
U.S. District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie held that the plate, which was to feature a large yellow cross, a stained-glass window and the words “I Believe,” clearly gives favored government treatment to one faith. In a summary judgment ruling, she ordered state officials not to issue the plate.
Americans United for Separation of Church and State, which served as counsel in the case, praised the decision.
“This is great news,” said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, Americans United executive director. “Government must never be allowed to express favored treatment for one faith over others. That’s unconstitutional and un-American." "

Bone, I could argue all day about how truly, TRULY "immoral" and corrupt the Catholic Church is--the ones who are behind this taking-away of decent citizen's civil rights, and it won't touch the heart of an apologist like you. You are, after all, committed to a life of explaining away the manifest lies, contradictions, hypocrisies and inaccuracies of Scripture and Dogma which make even the average "cafeteria Catholic" blush and stammer when confronted with them--fine, such is your wont, for whatever indecipherable reasons.
However, I would urge you, in your misreading of this issue, to explore other near-identical issues of Civil Rights, where a minority of enlightened, compassionate Human Beings have recognized inequity and oppression, and worked tirelessly to change US Law to end such injustices like Slavery, Oppression of Women, Jim Crow laws and Institutionalized Racism. In every one of these issues, the majority of public opinion was against it. And in each case, the odious practices were ended under Law.
This will happen with Gay Marriage in my lifetime. I guarantee it. Look at the margins, Bone--according to a Research 2000 poll of likely voters in Maine, voters under 30 supported Gay Marriage equality by a 14-point margin-as their anti-Gay counterparts over the age of 65 backed Question One by 15 points. 52.8 percent of Mainers had voted to repeal the state’s same-sex marriage law, versus 47.2 percent who voted to keep it.
In November of 2008, Californians voted only 52% to 48% to limit marriage to a man and a woman.
Know what that means? That means that as younger people start entering the electorate in greater numbers, the vote balance will tip inexorably in favor of Gay Marriage. It's not a "moral" thing, Bone--it's simply "math".
Enjoy your fleeting "victory" while you can--because they will be short-lived. By the way--being Catholic doesn't make you "wrong"--but being bigoted DOES. "

The Mayan calendar works like a harmonic calibrator. It coordinates the earthly, lunar, solar and galactic seasons. It's really amazing.
In 2012, the Sun meets at the intersecting junction of the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic. The Milky Way extends in a sort-of north-south direction. The plane of the ecliptic where the Sun, Moon, planets and stars seem to travel in the sky, from east to west. The sun will intersect the Milky Way at a 60 degree angle near the constellation Sagittarius.
There's a whole beautiful Creation Myth that is centered around this happening, but I won't bore you with it. In short, mythically, on December 21, 2012, the Sun will rise to join the center of the Sacred Tree, the Sacred Tree of Life.
Now check this out!!! This event only happens only once every 26,000 years or so!! And you might be alive to witness it!! What "it" is a phenomenon caused by Earth's wobble on its axis--every 26,000 years, the Earth "stands straight up" and the sunrise on the morning of Dec 21, 2012 will be at the center of the galactic universe. When you look at the sunrise on that morning, you will be seeing the "Center of the Universe" as we know it.
The day after, the Earth begins to tilt again, and the relative position of the sunrise will never be the same for another some-26,000 years! So set your alarm clocks! Actually, the Mayans simply "reset" their "clocks"--their calendar on this day--to count down to the next 26,000 year cycle.
What does this have to do with "Doomsday"?! Absolutely NOTHING. It simply means that the celestial calendar used by the Mayans resets itself. A new beginning.
And what it really frickin' amazing to contemplate is that these allegedly "primitive people" figured all of this out! Contrast that with Christianity, which was still saying that the Earth was the center of the universe as late as the 17th century! "

It also contributes to the growing divide between the tiny elite with the vast majority of the money (Is is 2% of the population who control well over 95% of the world's wealth? It's still a valid point--there is a strong element of Christian fundamentalism in the Armed Forces that needs to be recognized and rooted out. I have friends in the military that have confirmed this to be true.
Here--check this out--here is the link to a story about alleged "ex-terrorists" with "...strong links to the Christian Right" being used by the military to spread anti-Islamic sentiment.

Author James Carrol is doing a documentary about it:

""My own conviction is that a crucial 21st Century problem is going to be Christian fundamentalism," he says. "Its global growth is an unnoticed story in the United States. Africa, Latin America, and parts of Asia are now absolutely on fire with zealous belief in the saving power of Jesus, in the most intolerant of ways. A religious ideology that affirms the salvific power of violence is taking hold. It denigrates people who are not part of the saved community, permitting discrimination, and ultimately violence. Hundreds of millions of people are embracing this kind of Christianity."

Then this flawed person worked in a position where he spent every day working with people who had been damaged by the horrific things they had witnessed and perhaps even in which they had participated -- haunted and damaged souls, not only recounting the horrors of war, but living evidence of the destruction of living persons it can cause, young people who had such promise now all messed up and barely able to function.
It doesn't help that he is also a Muslim, and so faces a fair amount of prejudice in this country, and especially in the Army when in many minds, the "war on terror" is erroneously equated with a "war on Islam."
Put it all together, day after day, and that little crack got wider and wider, until it busted wide open and the guy lost it completely -- a total wacko.
The fact of his being a Muslim is a very minor point in the scenario, and is no reflection on other American Muslims any more than it would have been a reason to condemn all Christians for the actions of the guy who blew up the Oklahoma City building.
So, an American Muslim went off the deep end. Last year, an Asian American killed a whole bunch of people in Binghamton -- that is no indictment against any other Asian Americans. In the past, rampaging killers have professed other faiths, including Christianity -- again, no indictment of Christianity.
We have some kind of problem in our world that puts just the right wrong kind of pressure on flawed individuals that when they crack, they act out their issues by killing whole lots of other innocent people. There is a bigger flaw in our society than in the sick individuals it breeds -- which is no excuse for their crazy and horrible actions, but it is a factor affecting them.
Just try to keep it in mind -- because one person is insane and happens to belong to a certain ethnic or religious group is no reflection on the rest of the members of that group. That's called "prejudice" -- pre-judging people because they are members of a given group. "

You are obviously someone that knows how to handle a dog. My dog was attacked by a pit bull that someone thought they had under control, using a reel type of leash. There are too many people that don't know how to handle a dog, and that's why I wrote that piece, to try to educate someone oh how to control a dog. I own a retired show dog, and I've got him trained to ignore other dogs when we are out walking, and I don't appreciate when people have trouble keeping their own animals under control. We do a lot of walking because of the nature of the breed of my dog. All I expect is that we can walk in peace, and not be afraid of someone's dog getting loose & attacking us. When that pit bull attacked my dog, I had to kick that animal at least 5 times before the owner got control back. I don't appreciate having to do that sort of thing. I'm sure you understand what I mean. The other side of the coin is if an animal bolted from it's owner, it's usually in the road, and that can be unfortunate. But my bottom line here is that the reel type of leash isn't meant for all dogs. "

Democrats' Plan to Help 'Uninsurables' Requires 6-Month Wait
In addition to a six-month wait to qualify for the health insurance program, there's a more fundamental issue -- whether $5 billion set aside for the three-year program is enough.
Democrats admit that their program will cost more than premiums are now, but they won't go up as much as they would without it. Yeah, right.
Keep your existing INsurance, funding for SCHIP stops in 2014. These people will transfer to Medicaid and will cost the states much more.

1. If you have an agressive type of dog such as a pit bull or a rottweiller, don't kid yourself to think that using a "reel" type of leash is keeping that dog under control; this type of animal can pull that handle out of your hand in the blink of an eye. That kind of a leash is meant for small dogs.
2. To effectively keep your dog under control, use a leash of a fixed length, putting your hand through the loop at your end, and holding onto the main part of the leash; the dog cannot suprise you and get loose with a sudden bolt if you are using the lease in this manner.
3. If you CANNOT learn to control your dog, and it attempts to attack MY dog with the intent to injure, then it becomes MY job to control your dog. I carry pepper spray with me at all times. This WILL effectively control your dog for at least 2 hours. "

My interest in the post was not so much whether these guys were out of line or not (and anyone who's seen my history of posts would know I support gun rights), but rather, I was mostly addressing the question of who owns the lakes?
I also formerly had a total nutcase of a neighbor who was always firing his gun into the hillside in the direction of our house when we had not only property, but little children and pets. His argument was that he wasn't aiming up that high, so it was "safe." Never mind that there was a dog running around between his feet, or that it is nonetheless illegal, and for good reason, to discharge a firearm within 500 feet of a residence, whether it is occupied or not -- he argued with the cop who came out for 20 minutes.
So, sure, most gun owners aren't like that, but I hear the line "they were aiming out over the lake so it was OK" and I just don't buy it. My question is still -- is it or is it not illegal to hunt there? If it isn't, then the walkers were stupid to be walking there. If it is, then they have cause for complaint. "
