HIT: To the Auburn High School Vanguard field band for a second-place finish in the state with its performance at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Sunday.
The Vanguard performed a “Space and Beyond” routine with music from classic science fiction movies. The band's great score is a reward for the band members' hard work and long hours of preparation that start during the summer months. Congratulations are also in order for the Jordan-Elbridge marching band for its fifth-place finish in its division.
MISS: To charges against two Genoa men for allegedly running methamphetamine labs.
Methamphetamine is highly addictive and has ruined countless lives. The manufacture of the drug is also very dangerous for anyone who comes close. We applaud our law enforcement officers for continuing to battle this scourge.
HIT: To the completion of a renovation of an old schoolhouse building in the Union Springs school district. The building was converted into a modern video production facility. Using state and local funds, Union Springs students now have a place to learn a skill that they could use in the future.
HIT: To this weekend's Auburn High School Athletic Hall of Fame induction dinner. The dinner has quickly become a welcome tradition as a new group of members are honored for their athletic exploits of their younger days and the quality of the lives they lead in the current time.
The Hall of Fame is a fine way to pay tribute to athletes that performed at a high level, leading Maroon teams to excellence. It's a great way for different generations of Auburn athletes to connect and remember those glory days of high school sports.
