The owner of a local design firm will be recognized next month for her service to both the general and business community.
The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce announced Monday that Laura Coburn, owner of Coburn Design in Auburn, will receive the 2009 Phyllis Goldman Encouragement Award.
According to the announcement from the chamber, Coburn was chose because of "her service to the community, outstanding business acumen, and her efforts to mentor and encourage young women."
She will be honored Nov. 19 during a luncheon at the Sunset Restaurant on North Division Street, Auburn. The event's keynote speaker is Auburn Public Theater co-owner Angela Daddabbo.
Coburn, formerly of Homer, has owned Coburn Design for 17 years. She is a founding member of the local business leaders' group Blueprint for our Region's Future, and she sits on numerous other boards and committees.
Created in 1997, the Phyllis Goldman award recognizes women who have "pursued an entrepreneurial endeavor" and is meant to "encourage other women to do the same," according to the chamber of commerce release. The honor is named for the Auburn business owner who inspired and encouraged women in business.
