The Class A Maroons dominated early and despite a big school record set by a Lakers' swimmer, Auburn came through with an 105-80 win in Skaneateles Tuesday.

The Lakers finished first in four events, including sophomore Rachael DeWitt in the 500 freestyle (5:42.25) to break a Skaneateles school record.

Auburn took an early lead after winning the first three events. Michaela Elliot, Tiffani Chehovich, Allison White and Ashley King took the 200 medley relay (2:09.01), Bethany Schroeder won the 200 freestyle (2:12.09) and Mallorie Dygert came in first in the 200 IM (2:29.21).

Shroeder, a senior, was the highlight for the Maroons in the pool, winning not only the 200 freestyle, but the 100 freestyle in 1:00.34 as well - two events she doesn't frequent in.

“She had her best times in both of those events and had a really good day,” Maroons coach Tom Clary Jr. said. “Those aren't events that she normally swims.”

The Lakers took three events in a row when Nikki Cole won the 50 freestyle (26.99) in front of Auburn's Elliot in 27.95. Kaela Fiutak won on the diving boards (194.90) and Kelly Dove came in second (145.3) and Auburn's Brigid Cotter finished third (142.3). Sarah Sawyer touched first in the 100 butterfly (1:10.98).

In the team's final win of the meet, Amanda Shoenfelt, Sawyer, Nikki Cole and DeWitt (1:52.15) beat Auburn's second-place team in the 200 freestyle relay by four seconds.

Rounding out Auburn's wins were Dygert in the 100 backstroke (1:11.58), Tiffani Chehovich in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.17) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Molly Blair, Elliot, Makenzie Hauger and Mary Jane Leja (4:02.41).

“After a really tough week, the girls needed sort of a break,” Clary said. “But that doesn't take anything away from Skaneateles - they have some really good kids over there.”

Auburn (6-0) hosts Henninger and Nottingham today, while Skaneateles is at Cazenovia Thursday.
