Moravia High School School will be honoring two alumni during a football game Oct. 10, as Allen Charles Powers and Daniel W. Hampton will be inducted into the school's Hall of Achievement. The ceremony will take place during halftime of the Moravia football game against Odessa-Montour.
Powers attended Moravia, where he played on one of the undefeated teams in 1960, aside from serving as vice president of his class. After school, he continued as an umpire for 21 years. Powers also spent three years in the 11th Armored Cavalry, Black Horse Regiment for the U.S. Army. He is a life member of DAV and VFW. During his time spent as Commander for DAV, Powers was awarded Veteran of the Year with a Bronze and Silver Star for helping all veterans. Some of his other accomplishments include an A.A.S. from Cayuga Community College, a B.A. from SUNY Oswego and graduating from the Douglas International Auction School.
Hampton played football, track and cross country at Moravia. He was also a member of the U.S. Army, and left only one day after graduating high school for Cadet Basic Training at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point. In 1997, he earned a B.S. in Systems Engineering and was commissioned in the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. He would later attend and graduate from the Field Artillery Officer Basic School and Army Ranger School. After ending his career in the military, Hampton began a career with CSX Transportation in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he is currently a project engineer.
