A Weedsport company that manufactures boats for harvesting aquatic weeds will supply equipment to the Iraq government as part of the country's reconstruction.
Alpha Boats Unlimited was awarded a contract this year to provide Iraq's Ministry of Water Resources with five aquatic weed harvesters, two trailers, five welding machines and spare parts, the company announced this week.
The company has provided equipment for weed harvesting in Cayuga, Owasco and Skaneateles lakes. According to Alpha Boats Unlimited, the machines sold to Iraq will be used to clear vegetation growth in the Tigress and Euphrates rivers.
The company will hold a private event Monday at the Mirbeau Inn and Spa in Skaneateles to welcome officials from the Iraq Ministry of Water Resources.
They will remain in the area for two weeks to conduct equipment training, water testing and pre-shipment inspection, according to Alpha Boats Unlimited.
