J-E rolls past Phoenix; Chiefs shut out Indians

Tia Segretto's hat trick propelled the Jordan-Elbridge girls soccer team over Phoenix 5-2 Tuesday.
Emily Dillon had eight saves in goal.

Also scoring for the Eagles were Emily Bates and Carrie-Jo Farrugia. Gracie Dungey and Segretto each had an assist in the match.

Jordan-Elbridge (2-4) hosts Manlius Pebble Hill Saturday.

Southern Cayuga 2, Groton 0

Felicia Allen and Katie Driscoll each scored, while Sarah Rocker had an assist.

Hillary Chidsey finished with two saves. The Chiefs led in shots, 12-5.

FIELD HOCKEY

Cato-Meridian 3, Homer 2

The Blue Devils picked up their first win, with Kayla VanNorstrand scoring all three goals.

Cassandra Greene had nine saves in goal for Cato-Meridian.

Tara Pickard and Amy Thomas each had assists.

The Blue Devils (1-6) travel to Cicero-North Syracuse Saturday.

Cortland 3, Weedsport 2

Gabrielle Barrigar led the Warriors in goal with eight saves.

Gabby LaForce and Marybeth Diego scored both goals.

Amy Sanchez chipped in with an assist.

The Warriors (4-4 overall, 2-3 league) host Fayetteville-Manlius Friday.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Trumansburg 48, Watkins Glen 53, Waverly 62, Southern Springs 86, Candor incomplete

J.D. Balloni (15:27) finished eighth overall, while Zach Casper (15:28) finished shortly behind in ninth.

Devan Barta (15:35) came in 11th overall for the Wolves.

Riley Shurtleff (17:22) finished 27th and Ted Alnutt (17:24) was 28th.

Groton 15, Moravia incomplete

Richie Bentley (29:26.6) was the only Moravia runner to place, finishing in 12th.

Moravia runners will travel to Owego for the Owego Invitational on Saturday.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Trumansburg 38, Watkins Glen 50, Waverly 81, Southern Springs Incomplete, Candor incomplete

Mary Miller's (17:53) sixth-place finish was a team-best for Southern Springs.

Lynda Balloni (19:31) finished 13th and Michelle Wilmot (19:58) rounded out at 16th.

Moravia incomplete, Marathon incomplete, Groton incomplete, Whitney Point incomplete

There were two runners in the top 10 for Moravia.

Aimee Glenister (24:14.4) finished in second overall, while Jennifer McLaughlin (29:24.2) finished in sixth place.

Moravia runners will travel to Owego for the Owego Invitational on Saturday.

VOLLEYBALL

Central Square 3, Auburn 1

Kaylee Hamberger's two kills and 21 assists weren't enough for Auburn as they lost three of four, 25-20, 18-25, 14-25, 18-25.

Emily Felter had 13 kills and three blocks, and Emily Jetty had an ace and one kill.

Janiqua Fletcher pitched in with three aces and three kills, and Brianna Enge two aces and two kills.

Katie Brown had four kills, Danielle Ryan added one kill and Maggie Brazak finished with one assist.

The Maroons (1-6 overall, 1-3 league) travel to Liverpool on Friday.
