The Southern Springs football team fell short in a game that they led for most of, losing 27-20 to Newark Valley on Saturday.
The Wolves ran for over 250 yards, but it wasn't quite enough.

Brandon Winter had 16 carries for Southern Springs, running for 126 yards.

Mark Delaney picked up 60 yards on 11 carries.

Quarterback Jason Wright completed three passes on nine attempts and finished with 73 passing yards and one touchdown.

The Wolves forced Newark Valley to punt late in the game, or so they thought. It ended up being a fake that gave Newark Valley a first down.

Two plays later, they scored with just over a minute left in the game.

Southern Springs began to drive in what they were hoping would be a comeback, but a fumble by Shane Groom with 23 seconds left turned the ball over, ending the game.

Southern Springs (0-2) travels to Avon on Friday.
