Short leads Panthers with hat trick

Ali Short's hat trick powered the Port Byron field hockey team to a 5-0 win over Cato-Meridian Friday at Port Byron.
Panthers' goalie Kellie Redmond had eight saves in net.

Nina Suarez added two more goals and an assist, while Jen Locastro had two assists and Nica Dare joined in with one assist.

The Panthers (2-2) will host Homer Tuesday.

FIELD HOCKEY

Weedsport 1, Homer 0

Brittany LaForce posted the goal for the Warriors off an assist from Amy Sanchez, while Gabbie Barrigar tallied eight saves.

Weedsport (2-2) travels to Cazenovia Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

Union Springs 7, Groton 2

Union Springs' Nick Shrimpton scored three goals.

The Wolves had four players score at least once in the game. Eric Hlywa scored twice and had an assist, while Justin Lyndaker added one goal and three assists. Jared Bretherton pitched in with a goal, Mark Ryan had two assists and Mitchell Hares had one assist.

Matt Orchard had five saves.

Union Springs (2-1) plays Dryden on Tuesday.

Lansing 5, Southern Cayuga 0

Kevin Stockton and Phil Littlejohn each saw time in the net for the Chiefs. The two made a combined seven saves.

Lansing out-shot Southern Cayuga 12-3, and the Bobcats had seven corner kicks compared to the Chiefs' two.

Southern Cayuga (1-2) takes on Trumansburg on Tuesday.

BOYS GOLF

Auburn 200, Henninger 229

For the second day in a row, Auburn had two medalists. Bob Dushatinski and Tim Daniels each shot a 38 in the non-league match.

Trevor Doan and Nick Herlihy each carded 41s, and Nikita Rosenblum shot a 42 at Brooklawn Golf Course.

The Maroons (4-1 overall, 3-1 league) host West Genesee on Monday.

VOLLEYBALL

Liverpool 3, Auburn 0

Auburn lost all three games to Liverpool, 4-25, 4-25 and 8-25.

Danielle Ryan had two kills and Diamond Wingate added one.

Kaylee Hamberger stepped up with two assists, while Emily Felter had one.

The Maroons (1-3) play Utica Proctor at home Monday.

Union Springs 3, Whitney Point 1

The Wolves defeated Whitney Point in four games Thursday, 25-22, 18-25, 25-13 and 25-16.

Leading Union Springs to victory were Susan Nannna who earned three aces, 16 service points, one kill, one assist and one dig, Hannah Moniz had two aces, nine service points, seven kills and two assists, Courtney Kirschner contributed with five aces, 11 service points and two assists, Stephanie Quill finished with three aces, three service points and one assist, Shelby Freligh had three aces, five service points, four kills and one assist, and Carli Jakaub had six aces, nine service points and two assists.

The Wolves (1-2) travel to Groton on Monday.
