Auburn first doubles player Jenna Bruno eyes the ball for a return in her and her partner Jaime Bruno's second set in their meet against Central Square on Wednesday.
“Minnoe played extremely well,” Maroons coach Shelly Connors said. “She is looking like she will do even better than last year, she should do really well in the league.”

Winning for Auburn in third singles was Sam Cadwallader who defeated Madison Perkins, 6-1, 6-1 while Palak Patel suffered the only loss, in second singles to Cailey Roberts in a tight battle 7-6, 8-6, 2-6 and 2-6.

In doubles for the Maroons were Jenna Bruno and Jaime Bruno in first doubles, who topped Rachel Cary and Kelsey Thibault 6-0 and 6-2, in second were Aiswarya Irri and Hanora Barron who beat Chelsea Mahaffy and Kaylee Meagher 6-3 and 6-2, the Maroons' Molly Brown and Heidi Vanbuskirk won in third doubles over Jessica Root and Mackenzie Ruffels 6-3, 6-4 while the Maroons also got a win in fourth doubles from Ashley Tuttle and Courtney Divito who defeated Alexis Bucher and Julie Hoveln 6-4, 6-4.

Auburn is just coming off a season opening loss to West Genesee, but feeling more confident after the victory.

“We had our full team this time, we didn't have everyone against West Genesee,” Connors said. “So this was a good win for us, it was good to see how everyone is doing together. We should definitely make sectionals this season, I have a good outlook after this win.”

Connors said that she is confident that freshman Minnoe will make individual sectionals as well and that the Bruno sisters, Jenna and Jaime will keep improving while the newcomers, Brown and Vanbuskirk are looking strong getting their first taste of varsity action after coming from last year's junior varsity team.

“Hopefully we will get close to last year's record of 10-4,” Connors said. “We have a good group of girls on the team this season, a lot of seniors we will be losing next year though.”

The Maroons (1-1) will host Utica Proctor Friday.
