Labor Day is here and thoughts start turning to fall. Wow!
The summer that was hardly a summer seems to have just roared right past us. We were able to have a successful and fun golf season with the Auburn YMCA-WEIU league. We ended this league last Monday night with a three-club tournament and our annual banquet at Lakeview Golf and Country Club. The weather was picture perfect for the tournament - lots of sun, moderate temperatures, slight breeze and fairly fast greens.
The crowning point of the tournament was the beautiful sunset that we got to see looking out over the lake.
The tournament was a challenge as everyone played with just three clubs for all nine holes. Everyone did very well, with Bob Usowoski taking the win. Kee Murphy was the top female golfer.
Closest to the pin winners on No. 16 were Kee Murphy from 11 feet, 5 inches, and Dave Kulakowski with 16 feet, 10 inches. The longest drive on the 18th hole went to Dave Kulakowski for males and Sherri Nicolosi for females.
Congratulations to all of the winners!
Awards were given out at the banquet, which was catered by Lakeview Golf and Country Club. All of the food was delicious, especially the tortellini.
Gerry Ward came to visit us at the banquet. He is one of our league's longest members and was sidelined this year due to a fall, so we were all glad to see him.
For the entire league, Bob Usowski had the lowest round for males and Pat Galbally had the lowest round for females. John Chomyk also had a hole-in-one, probably one of the few we will every hear about in our league.
Anyone who is just starting out with golf or needs a little more playing time should consider joining us next year. It's a lot of fun and a great experience for all.
Cayuga Museum is busy getting all of our artifacts artfully displayed for the Y's 150th anniversary exhibit which will have its grand opening on the evening of Sept. 16. There will be memorabilia, pictures and lots of interesting information that has been gathered for the last 150 years.
Many thanks to Mike Lynch of Lynch's Furniture for generously underwriting the museum exhibit for us. We are very grateful for his donation and appreciate his support.
SACC registration is reaching a feverish pitch as parents are getting ready for the school year and the care of the children before and after school. If you are in the need of some fabulous child care, be sure to look into our SACC program for all school-age children.
Remember, we have one thing that many other facilities don't have, and that's a pool, which is incorporated into programming for our after school kids.
Bill Brown, our maintenance director, is busy trying to get all of the building ready for our fall programs and also for our 150th celebration. This week he's spending his time on racquetball and gym floors, as well as painting and cleaning a lot of the preschool area. From there, he will be working on a thorough cleaning of the cardio room and fitness areas.
We are also hoping to do some landscaping outside to make it more attractive to those passing by. Whatever the look, we always hope that our spirit comes through to everyone that comes through our door.
