Yan Gomes did his job well as designated hitter and Brian Justice threw a couple of lights-out innings late in the game, and the Auburn Doubledays earned a 5-1 win over the Batavia Muckdogs at Falcon Park on Saturday.

After an hour rain delay, the Doubledays started off hot, scoring twice in the first inning before another scary moment delayed the game again.
Kyle Gilligan was hit in the head by a Justin Smith pitch, but was able to walk off the field.
Gilligan was the second Doubledays player to get hit in the head with a pitch in a week, after Sean Ochinko was pelted earlier in the week.
Smith suffered his fourth loss of the season after giving up four Doubledays runs in four innings of work. He also gave up six of Auburn's nine hits.
Dave Sever got the start for the Doubledays, but lasted just two innings and gave up Batavia's only run. Justice rebounded from two tough outings to fan four Muckdogs batters in 2 1-3 innings.
Gomes paced the offense with two hits and as many RBIs, while the ninth hitter, Markus Brisker was the only other multi-hitter for the Doubledays.
Lance Durham, Eric Eiland and Brad Glenn also contributed RBIs in the win.
Auburn will travel to Batavia for the rubber match in the three game series.
