HIT: To another terrific Great Race weekend.
While the weather wasn't necessarily ideal, participants were having a blast nonetheless. There's so much to say in praise of the Great Race #- from its boost for the local tourism economy to its promotion of physical activity. But perhaps the biggest impact is the way this event brings so many people together in the spirit of fun and community pride.
MISS: To a downtown Auburn bank robbery.
Police said a man held up the Genesee Street Bank of America branch late Monday morning, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The Auburn Police Department has made an arrest in the robbery.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in this incident.
HIT: To the weekend celebrations in Cayuga County's “Thruway communities.”
Friday and Saturday marked the town of Mentz Heritage Days, an old-fashioned community celebration of local history, with plenty of great music, food and family activities.
Sunday brought people out in Weedsport for a #“Canal Splash#” celebration, part of a series of events along the Erie Canal.
HIT: To the retirement of Auburn Doubledays manager Dennis Holmberg's jersey number.
For eight seasons, Holmberg has guided a different band of young baseball professionals each year wearing an Auburn uniform.
One thing all of those teams had in common was their dedication to playing the game hard and to acting like true professionals. The manager deserves the credit for that.
It's also become clear that Holmberg loves returning to Auburn every summer from his permanent home in Florida.
We can't think of a better number than Holmberg#'s 35 to be the first officially retired by the Doubledays.
