Things are starting to peak at the right time for the Auburn Doubledays. The team beat last-place Jamestown 8-3 in a battle between the Pinckney Division foes to win their sixth straight Saturday.
A 38 minute rain delay did little to contain the Doubledays. After jumping up to a 2-1 lead in the top of fifth inning, Auburn piled up the hits and runs as they scored four in the inning. Offensively, they had 13 hits and for the second straight night, the defense didn't commit a fielding error.
Sean Ochinko led the offense with three hits including one double, one RBI and scoring one run.
Jimmy Gonzalez led the team in RBIs with two, while shortstop Ryan Goins, Welinton Ramirez, Yan Gomes and Bradley Glenn joined Ochinko with one RBI apiece. Glenn's RBI came off of a sole home run, his fourth one on the year, in the second inning as he also scored two runs off of two hits.
Ramirez and Goins joined Glenn with two hits each and one double. Gonzalez also had a double, while Eric Eiland came away with a triple.
Toronto Blue Jays' 2009 seventh round selection Egan Smith got the start and picked up his second win on the season as he last five strong innings. Smith allowed just one earned run and walked one batter, while striking out four. Willy Mendez relieved him as he lasted 2-3 of an inning allowing one hit, one earned run and walking three batters. Jamie Lehman was the third pitcher of the night, going 2 1-3 innings, scattering two hits, allowing one run and striking out one. David Slovak finished off the night giving up one hit in one inning.
