Jordan-Elbridge's Carrie-Jo Farrugia is The Citizen's Player of the Year for girls lacrosse.
Learning the sport from her sisters Rianne and Brittany, Farrugia picked up what she could from playing with them, which is paying off as she is already a team leader as a sophomore, which is why she is The Citizen's girls lacrosse Player of the Year. Brittany went on to play lacrosse for Canisius College and Rianne is currently playing for Niagara University. Although Farrugia is going in the same direction, she is working hard to forge a path of her own in the sport and reaching her goals at Jordan-Elbridge.

“I really just tried to do my best this season and stay positive for the team,” Farrugia said. “Our team meshed really well together and we managed to improve quite a bit from last year. Our goal was to improve and we did that.”

Making it to the second round of the Section III, Class C playoffs was one of the goals Farrugia said that the Eagles had successfully completed, although a trip to the state championship tournament is preferred.

“Playing at sectionals was so exciting,” Farrugia said. “It was my first time there and it is so amazing to go out there and know that you made it that far with your team, the adrenaline is just pumping the whole time.”

Even sectionals was not the proudest moment for Farrugia #- that was when the Eagles defeated perennial sectional favorite and division rival Skaneateles.

“When we beat Skaneateles it was a huge deal,” Farrugia said. “That was the first time that we ever got to beat them and we did it twice this season. They have always been such a powerhouse team and to know that we got past them was a big accomplishment for us, it shows us that we are improving.”

Farrugia led her team in goals with 45 and earned 14 assists on the season after being switched from midfield to the attack position.

“I really worked on my stick skills this season and after my position was switched I tried to improve my shot,” Farrugia said. “I wanted to do really well and be well rounded, to score a lot but not to be a ball hog and be a good teammate.”
