Eric Edmunds was a Section III qualifier as a freshman and made the all-state team as a sophomore. It's safe to say the Skaneateles golfer has some high expectations for his next two years of high school.

The Citizen's boys golf player of the year is still an underclassman, but he plays like a seasoned veteran, exhibiting skills on the golf course that most seniors don't have a handle on.
After he struggled to shoot an 81 on the first day of the Section III Qualifier, Edmunds bounced back with a 76 on the second day to win the event.
“More experienced kids normally do that,” Lakers golf coach John Quijano said after the tournament. “He didn't seem to have any trouble with it.”
Edmunds didn't appear to have much trouble this season because he stayed out of it on the course. He drives it long and straight, while Edmunds thinks his strength is on the green.
He shot 32 multiple times during the season, and finished with a 37.4 stroke average.
But his best performance was saved for the state tournament, where he finished ninth, taking home all-state accolades.
“I am pretty happy about how well I did this year,” Edmunds said. “It was a big improvement for me and I reached a big goal.”
And while he sometimes made it look easy with a club in his hands, Edmunds had to put in plenty of extra hours behind the scenes.
“It took a lot of time on the range, practicing every day before states,” Edmunds said. “I worked really hard for it and it was nice to see all of it pay off.”
Edmunds held his first golf club at age 4 while on a family vacation. His father took him out and showed him how to putt a ball into the hole. After that, he was never too far from the course.
“I just kept wanting to play and the more I played the more I loved golfing,” Edmunds said.
With the support of his family and strong motivation from his coach, Edmunds is looking forward to a high school golfing future with high hopes for success.
“I really want to be a team leader in the future,” Edmunds said. “I would like to take on that leadership role and motivate other golfers on the team. My real goal is to be in contention for winning the state championship. That is a dream I would like to strive towards and I am going to keep working at it.”
Edmunds will spend his summer hitting the links and working hard to improve his game. With his sophomore year behind him and already the confidence building, Edmunds has plenty of moments to fondly reflect on.
“I shot under par in a couple of rounds I played this season, which is something I was very excited about,” Edmunds said. “The best moment and the biggest highlight was definitely making it to states though. So I have a lot to be proud of from this season.”
