The state senators representing Cayuga County have issued the following statements tonight regarding the apparent end to the state Senate power struggle:
Sen. Michael Nozzolio:
Over the last month we waged a valiant fight for the taxpayers of our
State, especially for those in Upstate New York.
The purpose for establishing the bipartisan coalition was to achieve
genuine reform of our government, and put New York State back on the right
track.
We remain dedicated to reversing the terrible tax and spending binge
created by Governor Paterson and the New York City Democrats who control
the State Senate.
We must continue the fight to relieve the overburdened taxpayers of our
state, reduce state spending, restore the STAR property tax rebate program,
and make New York State a better place to live, work, raise a family and
enjoy retirement.
Sen. David Valesky:
Today's resolution will enable the Senate to get back to work, allowing us
to pass legislation, like the Power for Jobs extension, that keeps people
working and keeps companies in Central New York, and will finally end one
of the most embarrassing ordeals in the history of the Senate. It is also
time to redouble our efforts to enact the real, bipartisan reforms I have
long advocated for, which would empower all 62 senators. Though this has
been a painful and frustrating five weeks, I am hopeful that a stronger,
more deliberative Senate will emerge, for the benefit of the people of New
York State.
