The central New York residents travel the United States and Canada, performing at more than 200 events a year at churches, retreats to family campgrounds. On July 11, the couple will bring their diverse style to Auburn United Methodist Church.
Les Green has decades of experience performing Christian music. He attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass., where he formed a vocal quartet named The Helmsmen. This group went on to perform for several years after college.
After the success of The Helmsman, Green joined a group named The Envoys in 1974. This gospel vocal quartet has been performing since the 1960s, and has been nominated for the Dove Awards, a musical award program for Christian music.
Les Green left The Envoys in 1978 and continued ministering through music, as well as recording background vocals for other Christian musicians.
Linda Green, a former schoolteacher, joined Les' travels in 1986, and the two have been traveling, performing and recording together ever since.
The Greens have recorded 13 albums to date, offering listeners an eclectic selection, ranging from gospel sound to “warm, family Gaither melodies,” according to their press release.
Les Green has performed for well-known ministers and other prominent figures in American Christianity, including Pat Robertson and Billy Graham, and the Greens now travel full-time, using their “God-given talent and calling to win people to Christ and encourage God's Church.”
The performance in Auburn is preceded by a pot-luck dinner, and the concert is free and open to the public.
Pastors and hosts of the couple's performance give glowing reviews, including Dr. A.J. Gibson of the First Wesleyan Church in Camden. Gibson is quoted in a news release as saying that a performance by the Greens was, “A delightful evening of praise and worship by two warm and committed Christians. Professional in quality and presentation, this ministry not only encourages the follower of Christ but pleases and glorifies God.”
