TONAWANDA - A 97-year-old Buffalo-area man was struck and killed when he apparently stepped into the path of an oncoming car.
Town of Tonawanda police say Alfonsas Sakavicius was killed around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday as he was crossing a street under an overpass, about 30 feet from the stop sign.

A car driven by 81-year-old Jean Rohrer struck Sakavicius, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they don't expect to file criminal charges against Rohrer but they're continuing to investigate.
