While Independence Day may fall on a Saturday this year, some government operations will not be open for business Friday.

Both Auburn City Hall and the Cayuga County Offices Building will be closed Friday, but the county will continue its 24-hour services. Those operations include the 911 center, the Cayuga County Nursing Home and the Cayuga County Jail.

All state offices will remain open for regular business hours Friday since July 3 is not a recognized federal holiday.

All post offices will remain open on Friday, but most will shorten retail hours by closing at noon. All post offices will be closed Saturday, and only express mail deliveries will be made during that day.

The early closing will not affect Friday's regular mail deliveries, but access to post office boxes may be limited.

The revised business hours will be posted at each post office, and commercial customers are advised to check with their bulk mail acceptance unit for Friday's hours of operation.

In Central New York, the only two post offices that will remain open the entire day Friday are the Utica Post Office, the Syracuse Processing and Distribution Center, and the station inside the Carousel Center.

All post offices will resume regular business hours on Monday.
