Auburn needs more downtown events

Saturday, June 27, 2009 11:35 PM EDT

So far I have not seen too many comments about Founders Day.
I just wanted to say that everyone did a great job from the organization to the preparing of downtown by the city workers, especially Seward Park and City Hall.

It was great to see so many people enjoy the day of fun downtown. I even returned Saturday night to listen to the band. Governor Palin's speech was good at City Hall, but it is too bad she had to go so political at Seward House by attacking everything that President Obama is doing. To me this event was not the place to do this.

After all, President Obama is just trying to fix the mess that her president got us into.

It would be great to have more dances downtown if it continued to bring people together for a good time.

" When the theaters are completed and a theater festival starts the downtown will flourish. The Kalet theater will probably happen but someone needs to step in and get Schines moving. Also the idea of developing the upper stories downtown into housing and loft apartments needs some tax incentives to happen. Also a revolving loan and grant system for facade improvement should be set up. These steps could help downtown thrive and the businesses would welcome and support more downtown events. Also night time shopping events should be tried to get downtown more active at night. Where is the chamber of commerce? "

" Completely agree with with you Mr. Powers. Palin's attacks hurt McCains's election chances, and I believe her own future in politics. Genesee street upgrades have improved the ride in to the city, now time for more street cafe's with events to draw people and $$ in. "

" Mr Powers, be prepared to get blasted as you went from downtown into politics. "
