The National Weather Service has now issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the area through 8 p.m. It said a line of storms has formed to the west of Buffalo and will reach the region between 3 and 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service is predicting some thunderstorm activity later tonight and in the early morning hours of Friday for Cayuga County and most of upstate New York.
A cold front is moving toward the region, which will lead to showers and thunderstorms. The storms will be isolated in the afternoon and become widespread as the night progresses.
The NWS said some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds and brief heavy downpours a possibility.
