The Auburn Doubledays missed plenty of opportunities to bring in a much-needed run in its 7-0 loss to Jamestown Tuesday.
With runners in scoring position, the Doubledays went 0-for-11 including a combined six strikeouts by their top three hitters and stranding eight runners on the base paths. The Doubledays have scored just five runs in four games so far this season.
Auburn got behind early after going down 4-0 in the first inning. Matthew Morgal got the start as he lasted three innings, allowing four runs off of two hits, walked three and struck out three in the loss.
The Jammers jumped up after their leadoff batter and No. 2 batter both drew walks to start the game. Kyle Jenson had a hit to score a run off of a throwing error by Eric Eiland- one of three for the Doubledays. The Jammers' next two hitters recorded outs, but they still found ways to put up runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Morgal walked another runner and then hit a batter to load the bases. Michael Pasek then had his lone hit in the game to bring in two runs and round out the Jammers' big inning.
Dave Sever followed Zach Outman on the mound, as Sever tossed three innings of work, allowed two runs off of three hits and sat down two Jammers on strikes. Willy Mendez finished off the Doubledays pitching efforts allowing three hits, but holding them scoreless.
Jack Murphy led the Doubledays with two hits including his double. Eiland, Lance Durham. Jonathan Fernandez and Kevin Nolan each had a hit.
Auburn (1-3) looks to take the series with Jamestown in the rubber match today.
