AUBURN - A Groton teenager was promised youthful offender status for admitting he sold prescription medication to another student on a bus traveling from the Moravia High School to the Summit School in Auburn.
As he pleaded guilty in Cayuga County Court Tuesday to felony fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, Joseph Tratt Jr., of Hilliard Road, building #4709, admitted he sold $4 worth of Adderall to a female student. Adderall is used to treat attention deficit disorder.
Tratt also admitted the medication was not prescribed to him, and that he obtained it from another individual.
Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann previously said Tratt was arrested after the girl he sold Adderall to, got sick by combining it with another prescription medication while in school.
In exchange for pleading guilty, Tratt was promised probation and youthful offender status, but was warned he could lose that deal if he gets in trouble before he is sentenced on June 30.
The maximum sentence for fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance is one to 2.5 years in prison with one year of post-release supervision.
