HIT: To three new enterprises springing up in Weedsport.
Georgio's, The Village Antiques and The Store on 34 all opened recently on North Seneca Street, with owners hopeful that not only local shoppers will stop by but that visitors from Syracuse and Rochester might be drawn to the area.
With all the sour economic news we've been hearing, it's great to see some new storefronts come to life.
HIT: To the Cayuga County arm of the Women, Infants and Children program for the distribution of gift bags designed to help local families achieve healthier lifestyles.
Thanks to grant funds and assistance from the local Eat Well Play Hard program, WIC is giving away 400 bags filled with things like toys and nutritional information.
The hope is that people will be inspired to exercise more and make better food choices, helping the adults and children to become healthier.
MISS: To a report from the Auburn Police Department that a man out for a bike ride was hit in the head, knocked off his bicycle, and repeatedly kicked while down on the ground.
Police have a vague description of a young man they say initiated the attack and are looking for a group of people that ran away from the scene.
We hope the police can locate those responsible so that they can be held accountable for their actions.
HIT: To the pending start of a new season for the Auburn Doubledays.
Assuming that rainy weather stays away, our local New York-Penn League affiliate will play in Batavia tonight and then host Batavia at 6:05 p.m. Saturday at Falcon Park.
The uniqueness and importance of Auburn hosting a professional baseball team cannot be overstated, and we have little doubt that we'll see big crowds at the ballpark this summer rooting for the home team.
