State Senate stalemate still simmering

ALBANY -- The coalition of Republicans and one Democrat didn't go into session as planned this morning, instead meeting behind closed doors with leaders of the ousted Democratic conference.
Republican Sens. Dean Skelos and Thomas Libous met with Democratic Sen. Jeffrey Klein and planned to meet with Democratic conference leader Sen. John Sampson.

They say they'll try to agree on how the Senate can get back to work but several attempts have already failed.

The Senate gridlock started last Monday when Bronx Sen. Pedro Espada and Queens Sen. Hiram Monserrate, both Democrats, joined Republicans to vote Democrats out of power. Monserrate has since rejoined Democrats, leaving a 31-31 stalemate.
