The Auburn Police Department is searching for seven people connected to the attack of a bicyclist in the area of the Mill Street dam last Friday.
Police said a white male teenager is believed to have struck a 47-year-old cyclist in the face with a blunt object at 6:39 p.m. The victim was then repeatedly kicked, possibly fracturing his eye socket, police said.

The victim and several witnesses described the assailant as being between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 8 inches tall, police said.

Witnesses also reported that the teen was accompanied by four white males, a white female and one heavy set black male, who all fled on foot after the assault, police said. All suspects were wearing white T-shirts at the time.

Police ask anyone with any information regarding the assault to call Detective Christopher McLoughlin at 255-4706. Callers may remain anonymous.

" the sad part is the police are asking adults for info...
they need to ask the local teens, I am sure they know what group wears white
t-shirts!

I have a cell phone, but there are many times I forget it has picture/video capabilities. "

" I am soooo glad I moved away. As a kid, I used to fish near the Mill Street dam. I thought I missed the area until I returned recently for a funeral and saw what had become of my hometown. It's really depressing how run-down and depressing Auburn has become. I guess when there are no jobs, slumlords allowed to let properties decay, and a lack of commitment by the city to clean things up, this is what happens. "

" Run-on sentences are a minor blip on the bad grammar radar. Having two degrees in German (lit), where run-on sentences are the norm, I have a tendency that way too. They are not "wrong" -- just stylistically less effective. We've seen a lot worse grammar on the Citizen forums than hoopes-dt's otherwise understandable run-on sentences. "

" I said it at the time -- that is the stupidest plan ever and it WON'T SAVE MONEY -- in the long run it will cost more to release prisoners in the community where they are jailed because they can just have their criminal network (friends and family) all organized and waiting for them when they get out, and it will wreak havoc on the community. When they made Auburn a hub, where they send prisoners from something like 12 prisons for their last few weeks before release, I knew it would be even worse. Short term "savings" for one single bureaucracy creates heavy long-term costs to the whole system and especially to the community where the scum are let loose.

And so it has. "

" Are you kidding me?? 7 scum bags. Sounds like a group of punk wanna-be's to me! When they're found, they should be allowed to be beaten, just like they did to this man on his bike. "Eye for an Eye" !!! There is NO more fear in kids now a days, and THAT'S why they have the run of the town! Nobody's put any kind of fear into them, so that they understand what 'consequence' means. When I was growing up..there was that 'fear'....but it was also respected. Parents, AND the law, need to start teaching / showing these a$$wipes that there WILL be consequences for their actions, period! You beat someone up, send them to jail for a week...bet they wont like it. You shoot someone..to me, that should be 'attempted murder', and it should be tried AS that...not 'assault'. It's past time for the cops, parents, and the justice system to wake up, and take action against these rug-rats..and show them what's WHAT ! Or...people can start walking with baseball bats !!! "

" "Several witnesses" I wonder if anyone could have helped, or called the police. With a group of that description, they shouldn't be hard to find. How and when were the police called? Sounds like things are getting out of control in Auburn. "

" hoopes_dt I have no idea what you are actually saying with your run on sentences and grammatical errors. However, I think that I read something to the effect that these "perpetrators" have to be taught a lesson by the police and public when found. But then I read that the BEST lesson was going to be learned only in prison. Yet then I read some more, these perps should be afraid of an encounter with you before the law finds them. I have this thought - you are really no different from them, are you? "

" This is outrageous. I regularly ride my bike around Auburn, during these hours, in places like this. When these perpetrators are found, the police and the public have the responsibility to show no mercy in response; a mentality of ignorance and lawlessness towards cyclists and pedestrians is rampant in places like Auburn. The best lesson for this type of vile criminal is one that must be taught behind bars. These punks would be lucky not to encounter me before they find the law. "
