PALMYRA - State canal officials are trying to determine why a dredge barge sank in the Erie Canal, shutting down a stretch of the waterway over the weekend.
The state-owned hydraulic dredge barge sank Saturday night while docked in the Wayne County village of Palmyra, 20 miles west of Rochester.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Department said there were no reports of any injuries.
The accident shut down the canal between Lock E-29 in Palmyra and Lock E-28B in Newark on Sunday. It was later reopened.
