The debate over Justice Sotomayer shows that the law is full of baloney, just like almost anything and everything else. Many lawyers don't even do the best they can for each and every one of their clients.

Today I had to drop off a package at the post office on James Street and was disgusted at how unkempt the place is. Overgrowth, butts, trash, cracked windows and filthy concrete -- it's a shame that a government entity can't even keep its property clean.

I think the delinquents responsible for killing the ducks at Hoopes Park should be sent to family court. As I understand it, their crime was a felony and they should be responsible no matter what their age.

Why June 6, the anniversary of D-Day? I know boys never returned -- big deal, a parade and the Alaskan governor.

Is our current DA for real? Does he really have a law degree, because obviously he has no common sense?

I remember the 80's scare very well, as I had to have several units of blood pumped into me before/after the emergency C-section of my son in 1985.
I had to undergo testing every year for 10yrs (under Dr.'s advice) since they couldn't say for sure if the blood was tainted.

yes, Karl, I could have been a innocent victim.
If I had tested positive, I certainly wouldn't have had 2 more kids, or secretly passed it on to someone I slept with. "

Paragraph #2: you heard murder, I heard deserve..
atleast I heard a WORD in the sentence, and didn't make one up to suit my ANTI-fight for the day! "

the subject was legalizing same-sex marriages--which I am against!

karl went 'hate mode' on paragraph 2...relating the paragraph to mean MURDER GAYS...

I stated: no where does the paragraph SAY 'murder gays'

however...if they choose a lifestyle, unprotected sex, they deserve what they get..
I am sorry that I don't feel sorry for a person who knowingly does actions that will hurt them, kill them, or cause others to be victims !

Are there innocent victims? of course! in every walk of life there are innocents:
newborns who have no say in what mom gives them, DWI's that kill families simply heading on vacations, or people working in the Twin Towers on 9/11.

as for Aids/Hiv, how it began is still not proven 'solely' by monkeys--or how it jumped ship to blood transfusions or needles...like any disease it has a mind of it's own as if it's mocking humans: haha you wont stop me!
And it will mutate over and over...no different than our latest swine flu.
BUT there is no doubt that HIV/AIDS is a huge killer among gays (especially men), there are many stats to PROVE that.

I am not hateful to, nor do I condone anyone killing gays, but just as you, karl, are strong on YOUR opinions FOR their rights, I am strong on MY opinion for MY BELIEFS!

and NO WHERE did paragraph #2 say 'murder gays' "

" daydreamer--well said!

And daviddelker--I agree with you to the extent that idiots who do stupid things "deserve" the consequences if they are willingly simply flouting the odds and living life dangerously, but the imputation from cm's comment was a moral judgment, not a circumstantial one.

That was what so sickened me. "

" I remember when the "plague" first began. I was around 13 years of age when I first started reading about a new disease named G.R.I.D. (Gay Related Immune Deficiency) in the newspapers. I remember reading about the death tolls in California. I remember reading about all the anti-gay bashing, which led to a culture among some to murder. Then I remember something unthinkable happening at the beginning of the 80's. The virus infiltrated Americas blood supply. Suddenly, a new way of looking at the virus began to emerge. Hemophiliacs were the first group to get hit hard. This is when most of society woke up to realize that this virus did not discriminate. A new term was coined, A.I.D.S., and a massive campaign was launched to re-educate the public. I cannot believe that here, now, in the 21st century, that people are still bashing the gay population and suggesting that they "deserve" it. So much knowledge now exists about this virus. I remember the outrage I had back in th 80's towards all the Evangelical Christians screaming that this was God's will, and His way of cleansing the unclean. I am sorry, and sickened, that this prejudice still exists today. "

" Anyone who practices in hazerdous activities--unprotected sex, smoking, skydiving, drinking in excess, motorcycle riding without a helmet, has no sympathy from me when they are the recipient of a negative outcome. I don't feel that gays deserve AIDS for just being gay, nor do I feel it is a punishment from God for their activities. My father died of cancer at the ripe old age of 62--he abused his body for 50 years, and reaped what he sowed. I believe that most people know the what the possible outcomes are for risky behavior, and often do nothing about changing their habits. Free will is a great gift, and a curse. Use it wisley. Karl---you throw out some facts about who spreads aids---in the 80's it was spread predominantly by homosexual activities. Then hetero, and IV drug abusers. "

" Wasn't there some guy from downstate several years back who knew he had AIDS who came up to the Rochester area and had promiscuous unprotected sex with several young women -- he infected them and there was talk of taking him to court for murder or something -- mymemory is vague, but the point here is that it was the guy's utterly irresponsibly promiscuous behavior which spread AIDS, not his sexual orientation. "

movedsouth wrote on Jun 8, 2009 7:26 AM:

" karl, the cancer issue was to make a point. It doesn't matter where it would come from, the issue becomes treatment. If I used AIDS as the issue, it would have clouded the issue. I don't know or care about AIDS. I do know that MANY years ago, it was thought, or so we heard, to have come from "the love between 2 males" I refuse to argue about something that I don't know or care that much about. "

Farmer's Gal wrote on Jun 8, 2009 7:26 AM:

" Everyone has a different way of dealing with the difficult things in life.

Some folks with cancer find comfort in researching and learning all they can about it, while others would prefer not to dwell on that and just get on with moving forward as best they can. Neither way is right or wrong -- each person has to find his or her own way to cope. I daresay this is the case for individuals with AIDS or HIV as well.

In broad strokes, we know there are both environmental and hereditary factors involved with cancer. There are an awful lot of carcinogens in our environment -- pair an unknown exposure with a hereditary predisposition for cancer, and someone who never smoked and was never even around smoking may develop lung cancer.

Doctors and researchers need to understand how cancer comes about to better be able to treat it, but if you trust your doctor and don't want to know the gorey details, that's your choice -- and again, nothing wrong with it.

Here's hoping your radiation did the trick and cleared it out and that you have many cancer-free years ahead of you to enjoy. "

" movedsouth, I"m genuinely sorry to hear about your cancer, but you should ask cm if you "deserve" it. She'll probably guess that you were a smoker, or a lousy eater, and therefore, you "deserve" it, because you knew that smoking or bad diets would give it to you.

The post you seek is in the editorial letters section--I also stated it here in Two Cents--here was cm's despicable quote:

---"...simply put: they [Gays]know IT causes AIDS, and if they choose to get AIDS, then they deserve what they get."

THAT was what I was calling on you to refute--to prove that even a person who is quite hard-core ideologically the same as cm would recognize the absolutely horrid imputation of that disgusting comment--that Gay people somehow "deserve" to get and die the horrible death from AIDs simply because they are Gay

The point is a pretty simple one. Do you, or do you not, agree with cm that Gay people deserve to die the agonizing death of AIDs simply because of the way they are, even if it may disgust you? "

I sincerely can't believe though, that you lack the courage to make a moral stand on something as truly obscene and grotesque as cm's comment specifically concerning AIDs. Nice attempt at sidestepping the question, but I caught it.

Well, if there's any silver lining in this whole sad, sad affair, thank you for reminding me why I'm proud to call myself a "Liberal"!

My whole argument today has focused on the extension of rights to a group of oppressed people, and for the renunciation of hatred, intolerance, and pernicious ignorance.

" Shameful, self-righteous, arrogant PRIDE-- (one of the Seven Deadly Sins if you believe in that sort of thing)--you are the absolute embodiment of that in SPADES, cm.

You presume, in your prideful arrogance and hubris, to "know" how AIDs began--as if in your twisted, imaginary world, it began as some kind of "divine curse" sent down from God like one of the plagues of Egypt or something. Notwithstanding that Scientists are STILL unable to pinpoint exactly even WHAT CONTINENT it began in. But, no--YOU "know" don't you?!

Yours is precisely the kind of ignorant, perhaps-unintentionally (though I doubt it?) hateful and insidious kind of religious fundamentalism for which I reserve my harshest and most sincere vitriol. You embody the smugly conceited, self-righteous religious "enemy" against which I fight.

First of all--all moral considerations aside--you are medically, factually wrong. AIDs is not IN ANY WAY exclusive to the Homosexual community! Where did you get this ridiculous idea?

Educate yourself, cm--let these FACTS penetrate that skull of yours. From http://www.healthsquare.com/aids_stats.htm

---Worldwide, more than 75 percent of all adult HIV infections result from HETEROSEXUAL INTERCOURSE!

---By the year 2000, an estimated 5 to 10 million children under 10 years of age will be orphaned worldwide because of the premature deaths of HIV-infected PARENTS.

---In 1996 alone, HIV/AIDS-associated illnesses caused the deaths of approximately 1.5 million people worldwide, including an estimated 350,000 CHILDREN!!

DO ALL THESE "INNOCENT" PEOPLE "DESERVE IT"?!? (As if there are really "guilty, deserving" people?!)

DID THOSE WOMEN AND CHILDREN DESERVE THE "GIFT OF LOVE" THAT THEY RECEIVED FROM THEIR HETEROSEXUAL PARTNERS?!?!

I want to believe somewhere in this life that it is possible for you to recognize the shamefully depraved depths of your ignorance and disgusting beliefs, and to pray (Yes, "pray") that you did not pass on this profoundly disgusting worldview to any children under your influence? But I fear that I may be just dreaming. More justifications, rhetorical nonsense, and side-stepping and spinning, turning the question back on me, is what I expect from you.

I appeal to you on the most genuine and humble level to recognize not only the factual, medical, and scientific errors of your fallacious "beliefs" but also the (il)logical, immoral, and uncompassionate ditch in which you have mired yourself with these disgusting pronouncements. Prove to me that you have at least an ounce of integrity and humility and renounce your ignorant statement? "

I shall try to refrain from the invective which apparently prevented my post from being published, but I must say that never have I read such an ignorant, hateful, self-righteous and just simply IGNORANT statement. You have really put yourself on a new level of contempt with this one.

For your consideration--there are many HETEROSEXUAL WOMEN who contract AIDs from their HETEROSEXUAL PARTNERS who get AIDs from their drug abuse.

There are children born with AIDs in Africa and even the USA from their mothers being infected from simple things like tainted transfusions, or drug abuse.

Are you willing to go on record than saying that these innocent HETEROSEXUAL women and CHILDREN "deserve" to die horrible deaths from AIDs?!?!

On the Bible, a simple example: In one place it tells you "An eye for an eye," while in another place it says "Turn the other cheek" -- makes it rather difficult to use it as a rule book for life when it gives completely contradictory instructions. (And that's just one example -- you can find more without even trying very hard).

On the issue of incomprehensible posts: I was just correcting the incorrect remark that no one has the right to criticize writing which is so bad that half the time you can't understand what the person has written. Freedom of Speech gives that person the right to write whatever s/he wants, but it also gives me the right to criticize it in any way I see fit, so long as it isn't libelous, obscene, etc.

In the movie with Jack Nicholson, it looks like the place is out in the country, all peaceful and stuff, they sit there half the day before Hoffa is abducted and you can see fields and stuff.

Well, even back in 1975, Telegraph Rd was a divided highway with 4 lanes on each side an a very major thoroughfare. I can't remember if the Bloomfield Plaza was right there then or not, but it was all built up, lots of asphalt and plenty of traffic, day and night.

So much for artistic license.

My best guess is that he's embedded in the concrete at the Meadowlands where the Giants (and Jets) play -- they are building a new stadium, but I don't think the old one is coming down, so it will be a few more generations before we know -- yes or no -- to that theory.

John Paul I was murdered. NO DOUBT. And John Paul II was complicit in the affair.

JPI wanted to clean up the Vatican, and get back to the "Poverty" vow. He was widely regarded as a complete maverick, and an outsider to Vatican affairs. Catholic priests breaking the law by endorsing political candidates in Sunday sermons showing their attempts to wield political influence.

My concern arises from a fear, that the lettuce in my salad, could have been imported produce. The spider could have been an illegal immigrant, hitchhiking from South America. So, I thought that I would be honest, and alert the store of this situation. I was enjoying the salad, with grilled chicken, and had consumed a good portion of it when I discovered the spider. I brought the salad to the customer service desk and voiced my concern. I thought a refund, and possibly a free salad would be appropriate. The young lad chuckled and said here's your money back. I then asked for the manager since there was no obvious concern for quality control. The manager was polite and apologized, and issued a coupon for a free salad. The only reason I brought the manager into this situation, is because I know that the young lad would have tossed the salad to cover for the other employees. I might have overreacted just a little bit, but, in this day and age, it's hard not to be concerned about contamination of a food product. "

In the case of fresh produce, take the complaint to the store. Most stores claim to take pride in customer service, and it's just this kind of issue for which they are there. No need to be nasty -- just call, send e-mail or come in person with your receipt and what happened, and they should offer you a refund in return.
