My compliments to Mr. Gorney on a well written piece. However, I'm guessing the intended target audience will not read the paper.
Having worked with products of poor uneducated households for nearly 20 years, I have found they are really not interested in “being like you.”
Many are quick to blame the schools for the misbehaviors of their kids.
You talk about use of vocabulary, important as it may be, to see appropriate social skills would also work wonders when it comes to the teachers being able to deal with kids.
If you really want that message to get out, post it on a scratch off lotto ticket dispenser.

in many instances, a POOR kid will come across a person of interest and do everything possible to mimic that person.
this is how they end up in gangs! hopefully they meet and become infatuated with a good human being first!
I have read many of stories stating some poor kids, with the right person/teacher influenced them to become doctors or lawyers or even teachers!
yes, parenting begins at home BUT it only takes one person out of the VILLAGE to make a difference in a childs life. "
