For the second straight season the No. 2 Skaneateles boys lacrosse team finds itself in a familiar situation after its 10-2 win over third-seeded Cazenovia in the Section III, Class C semifinals at Cicero-North Syracuse High School Tuesday.
Skaneateles is now looking to defend its title after going up 5-0 early in the first quarter. However, Cazenovia's defense woke up and shut Skaneateles out in the second frame, but was only able to score one goal.
Skaneateles (20-1) plays No. 1 LaFayette for the sectional crown at 3:30 p.m. at Cicero-North Syracuse High School Friday.
Kyle Baier, Thomas Schoener and Dylan Ross each scored two goals, while Baier and Schoener each had an assist. Patrick Emmer, Nathan Hunt, Kevin Rice and Mike Richards finished with a goal each. Kelly Donigan led Skaneateles in assists with two, while Paul O'Donnell had an assist.
Cal Winkelman finished with five saves, while Skaneateles outscored Cazenovia 5-1 in the second half.
“The emotion of the players, everyone wanted to get off to a quick start,” Lakers coach Ron Doctor said. “We knew we had to come out strong and (after the second period), things flowed our way.”
