The Chapel House Homeless Shelter sees its volunteer base drop during the summer due to vacations and other obligations and is thus looking for extra people to cover the open hours that will pop up. The shelter is located at 36 Franklin St. in Auburn. It accepts up to 19 men, women and children, accompanied by a parent, each night.

First Love Ministries' community soup kitchen serves lunch to the needy from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at 133 Wall St. in Auburn. Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve the meals, as well as clean up. Thursdays are the most pressing day of need for the kitchen.

Volunteers are needed at the 2009 Cayuga County Fair, which runs from July 2 through the 5 at the fairgrounds, Route 31, Weedsport. Help is needed with cooking food, fundraising and marketing. The race is a two-day, three-stage bicycle race held July 18 and 19. It attracts more than 300 racers annually.
Volunteers should be 18 or older (drivers 19 or older) and be able to commit two to four hours for one or two days of the race. Groups of volunteers of 10 or more may be eligible for a $250 stipend, and groups of 20 or more may receive a $500 stipend. All volunteers are supplied with food and refreshments.
