The staff of Cayuga Community College's student-run newspaper, The Cayuga Collegian, was recently honored with a first place award in the American Scholastic Press Association's annual newspaper competition.
According to a news release, it is the fifth year in a row the paper has earned top honors in a national contest.
In a letter to the staff of The Cayuga Collegian, American Scholastic Press Association judges wrote: “You have an excellent school newspaper, which shows the talent of your editors, reporters, writers, photographers, layout designers and advisor.”
Natasha King, of Auburn, a CCC sophomore studying radio and television production, served as the Collegian's editor-in-chief.
She is preparing for an internship at Disney World this summer.
Sports editor Jesse Cases, of Auburn, a CCC sophomore, hopes to continue his education at Ithaca College in the fall.
Collegian staff writer Brandi St. John, of Scipio Center, will take over as the Collegian's editor-in-chief in the fall.
Mary G. Merritt, of Marcellus, an assistant professor at CCC, is the newspaper's advisor.
