Who's paying for the Sarah Palin visit and all the "sprucing up" the city will need?

I hope they teach the cops to use the new Tasers better than they did the Harleys.

You people that have guns, etc. that also belong to the NRA are nuts. I'm entitled to my opinion.

The probation department in Cayuga County is a joke.

" Hi Karl, Showpeople and any other moderates out there.

I heard this morning that a poll was taken in many countries around the world with hundreds of thousands of votes received and the most favorite and respected leader is:

President Barack Obama!

Beautiful way to start the weekend... "

Not only was it a city in ancient Asia Minor whose church was censured in the Bible, but it also has a meaning - Indifferent or lukewarm especially to politics and religion. With all the holier-than-thou bickering about both subjects these days, perhaps the best thing to do is to become a Laodecianite. "

I do think it's pathetic that she continues to embarrass herself by believing that she's EVER been some serious political candidate. She needs a serious reality check. "

Maybe naked in PLAYBOY? I'd pony up the five bucks or so, just to see if she showed anything?

Other than that, I'm trying to decide if I make my insult sign out of wood (for permanence and strength?) or plain ol' posterboard, for ease of transport?

Also, I've been practicing my moose yodel--I want to see if I can call her in to cream-pie range... "

" IMHO. I think that many commenting are missing the main point. Gov. Palin is considered a "far right" Conservative Republican. Should the planning committe have taken a position on inviting a political figure that so controversial. I do not think that politics should have been used to kick off a badly needed festival. It is a slap in the face to about 60% of Auburnians who consider themselves moderate Republicans or Democratic. Kind of sad, really. I guess it is all about the money.
Check out the local websites. Not a word. No publicity and there will be none. Even the newspaper which backed many Republicans and Conservatives in past elections do not have much good to say about the whole affair.
Again, IMHO, perhaps different organization is necessary for the NEXT founders day; that we will ALL be able to attend. "

" Gator, what do you mean "get over the election"? MY Candidate won! I am SO happy that President Obama is in charge of the White House, the Congressional Majority is Democratic and that Judge Sotomayor is almost certainly going to be our first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice. I hope that President Obama has another chance to nominate a Judge for the Supreme Court during his term in office, and it would be nice to see an American Indian or an Asian on the bench, to have a more diverse Court. I am happy that finally Everyone has a chance to realize their dreams, not just some who think that because of what they look like that they deserve the best of everything life has to offer, and that others only deserve their 'leftovers'.

I guess you and others don't just understand that not all of us are interested, fascinated, star-struck or even think about Gov. Palin. The sun doesn't rise or set just around her. She's only a 'mickey mouse' governor of a state with less than 800,000 people, not some kind of Goddess who 'favors' people by being in her presence... "

Whichever, it does not change the ties, AUBURN, SEWARD, AND ALASKA. THIS IS WHAT HATE IS! We had about an equal number of Senators and Governors elected President, and the hate for a VICE PRESIDENT NOMINEE is unbelievable. Let's see an actor, a peanut farmer, and a community organizer.

I hope the responsible citizens of Auburn treat her with respect, and the others are smart enough to stay away. "

Now if the governor was anyone else besides Palin they'd get slammed for not attending. Former resident-if you've never been to Alaska you have no idea what you're missing. Please tell me when simple minds will get over the election. The reaction of some to one simple visit of a well known individual just amazes me beyond words. Please note this is not for all Auburnians, I'm sure many of you are like myself, proud of your heritage. "

Hey, if she's coming to Auburn to raise money FOR the Seward House, then, great! If it helps Auburn and helps create jobs or keeps the Seward House in good repair, then That would be wonderful!

If not, then she's just here for the money and doesn't give a hoot about Seward or Auburn. "

movedsouth wrote on May 28, 2009 5:45 PM:

" We have to remember that a former resident of Auburn, Stapleton, was instrumental at having Palin attend the ceremonies. As Gov. of Alaska, it is right that she attend. "milk Auburn for every penny" get over yourself, I'm sure she's not looking at the abundance of wealth in Auburn. Whenever her name comes up, all you people want to do is bash her. I think it's complete stupidity. And yes former resident, your 4:17 post was meant to do just that. "

I know that's the connection. What I was getting at is that Palin is taking advantage of the situation just because she is the current governor of Alaska.

I think I remember reading that the tickets to see her are $100 each, then there are the $250 tickets to get your picture with her and get some snacks in the Seward garden.

They figure there will be about 400-500 people paying for tickets--so that's an awful lot of money she's going to get to take back with her to Alaska. I think she's going to milk Auburn for every penny she can get, which is so sad. But with all those investigations of ethics complaints relating to her office, she'll need all the financial help she can get. And now I've heard that the "First Dude" tried to bribe his daughter Bristol by saying he would buy her a car if she dumped the father of her child. Not a very good example of parental love or wisdom, IMHO. Boy, there sure are lots of interesting things happening in Alaska. I just might decide to visit there one day; before all the polar bears, moose, grizzlies, foxes, wolves, etc... are permanently wiped out... "

As far as paying to see Palin--sure, those who want to spend their money--go for it. But, as I've written on a previous post, Palin was born in Sandpoint Idaho. She's not from Auburn and she Chose to move to and live in Alaska. Why she thinks she has some kind of connection to Hon. Seward is very dubious.

My bet is that she is taking advantage of being invited here to make a few dollars off "Seward's Folly". People who want to waste their money seeing her are welcome to do so.

It doesn't matter what you or others believe about this issue, frankly. What matters is that people are afforded equal rights.

Perhaps you don't remember that a majority of people used to think slavery was OK, or that blacks, or in another time women, were denied the right to vote. "

I guess that leaves health insurance: GET YOUR OWN!
most of what they are griping about is handle with added paperwork, except the ability to claim the others Social Security.
On the SS issue: go to work and get your own!

on the flip side: most marriages end in divorce, now they have the advantage to KEEP their own stuff WITHOUT the hassles of paperwork! "

" I'll bet you're really disappointed that you cannot throw in the racist word. I just happen to believe, along with the majority of the country, that marriage is between a man and a woman. I an not intolerant of gays being together, a civil union with all legal aspects of marriage is fine. I just believe in traditional marriage, it has nothing to do with religion. "

" I heard a suggestion from a person connected with Pepperdine University the other day that made a whole lot of sense to me. He said that the problem lies with the nomenclature "marriage". Right now, gays have all the rights of married hetrosexuals if they choose to have a civil union. So why not have civil unions for everyone? That way, gay and straight couples will have all the same legal rights. Then, if any couple wants to use the word "marriage", they can solemnize their civil union with a ceremony (that has no legal value) at their church (or atheist organization for that matter). When that ceremony has been performed, they can use the word "marriage". So folks, tell me what is wrong with this thinking - I'm sure someone will! "

" Yes, Congratulations, California.

Having once been the admirable State of "Love-Ins", Peace and Love and Harmony, Flower Children and the Peaceniks, "Make Love Not War", you have not singled yourself out as the most "reformed" State in the Union, under Conservative religious brainwashing paranoia.

You now hold the dubious honor of being demonstrably the Most Bigoted State in the Union! HURRAH!!!!

You have a "Ms California who perfectly exemplifies your Bigotry and Prejudice, and a State Supreme Court which has confirmed and approved your snti-American sentiments.

Even a powerful smell of scheist is an achievement, I guess?

It will last about one year in my prediction. gloat away, oh proud Bigots who moved south! "

Surely we can all breath a sigh of relief now. Don't have to worry about the queers ruining the institution of marriage now do we? Unbelievable. It would be funny if it were not so pathetic. "

" Kudos to everyone at the Seward House and on the Founder's Day committee who succeeded in getting Sarah Palin here. It will be a great day for downtown -- hundreds of press, people who love her, people who hate her, all here in Auburn eating, drinking, many staying over night. It should be a huge day for restaurants and hotels. Who cares whether or not you like Sarah Palin? "

" Sarah Palin - how exciting, not!

If anyone has a little time on their hands and really wants to get a nice look at history, real history that is, I highly recommend some videos.

First let me say that I have studied quite a bit on this topic, and I believe that the producers left out some important information, but the videos are certainly factually accurate, even if they draw a different conclusion. One person who's name that seems absent has the initials of GHWB.

Anyhow, here are the links:
