NY meets stimulus threshold for highway projects

ALBANY -- New York officials say they have obligated more than $392 million in federal highway stimulus money, a spending threshold the state had to reach by June 29 or risk losing the funds.
The Paterson administration says it has already certified 172 highway, bridge and other transportation projects across the state. They could not immediately provide figures on how many jobs will be created by the projects.

By meeting this initial threshold, state officials say New York is eligible for stimulus highway funds that other states fail to use.
