HIT: To one of the best weekends of the year for local family activities.
As always for Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday were packed with a wide variety of events in and around Auburn.
And Mother Nature cooperated, as well, bringing plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures.
Most importantly, Memorial Day observances in communities throughout Cayuga County provided the opportunity to pause and reflect on the meaning of the holiday.
MISS: To a three-vehicle personal injury crash on Route 5 in Elbridge that sent seven people to the hospital on Friday afternoon.
State police said the crash resulted from a person simply not paying careful enough attention to what was in front of them, causing a rear-end collision that sandwiched the middle car.
Fortunately, no one suffered life-threatening injuries.
The accident should remind all motorists to stay focused on their driving.
HIT: To this year's recipients of the Cayuga County Senior Citizens of the Year awards.
Merle Clarke, of Weedsport; Bernice Mix, of Moravia; Arlene Murphy, of Moravia; and Doxie Sherman, of Auburn; will be given certificates at the county Legislature meeting today, being held at 1 p.m. at Emerson Park Pavilion in honor of Senior Citizen Month.
HIT: To an incredible finish between two central New York teams in the NCAA, Division I men's lacrosse championship on Monday.
Syracuse rallied from a three-goal deficit in the final minutes, scoring the tieing goal with just four seconds left against Cornell.
The Orange finished off the comeback with the title-winner in OT. As thrilled as you are for SU, you have to feel just as bad for the Big Red, who saw their first title since 1977 slip their hands.
It shows the best lacrosse in the nation is played in our backyard, when you add Cortland State winning the Division III crown and LeMoyne reaching the Division II title contest.
