Working class needs to benefit under Obama

Saturday, May 23, 2009 11:43 PM EDT

The neocons accuse President Obama of wanting to redistribute the wealth. We had redistribution in this country under the neocons. They took from the working class and the poor and gave to the wealthy big corporations, and the special interests. I for one would like to see the working class get its fair share.

" All the government asks for is the richest of Americans to pay a few percent more taxes for social programs in this nation. Some poor people cheat and take advantage of these programs but so do corporations and people of all income levels take advantage of government programs. They are dishonest people but the programs are needed to help the weaker citizens who can't compete physically or mentally. Unlike the animal world we do not let the fit survive and thin the herd. You will find that most wealthy persons have no problem with this system but the most wailing comes from the middle class fools that fear a poor person might get a break. If you were able to get where you are without help then bully for you. Good job! But help the guy that needs a break. You will be a better man for it. "

" On the other hand, why don't the fools that advocate redistribution of wealth understand that it takes away incentive to improve yourself? Where is the "rich" line? When do you stop taking from someone that has more than someone else? Maybe everyone working for the same company should make the same money. Why strive to better yourself and maybe a supervisor with more responsibility when the janitor makes the same as you? Maybe the "fools" that oppose it are really the ones that understand that it just doesn't make sense. "

" Why are the fools that oppose distribution of wealth the ones that will never have to give up any of their "wealth"? They are just underachieving schlubs that will never be wealthy. "

" Ronnie, if you don't want to give to the big wealthy corporations, just stop buying gas for the car, stop paying your mortgage, pull your money from the bank and send cash when paying bills. That should bring them to their knees.

Here's an E-mail that I got last year, if you believe in redistribution of wealth, this is for you. Remember that there are a lot people worse off than you. Why not promote not working and living of the government? Let's grow that class of people that are lazy SOBs and refuse to work.

"Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application." "
