A city of Auburn board will take a look at two construction proposals that have caused neighbors to raise concerns.
According to the agenda for Tuesday's meeting of the city Zoning Board of Appeals, the board will consider authorizing a variance for the popular restaurant Kosta's to expand its bar. The board will also consider a variance that would bring an affordable housing development one step closer to going up on Clark Street and Belmont Avenue.
The housing development proposes 30 semi-detached homes and a community building on 8.5 acres. Multiple residents in the adjoining neighborhood spoke up against the proposal earlier this month during a meeting of the city planning board.
Some of the concerns included impacts the development might have on the neighborhood's quality of life, adding to traffic, noise and light pollution. Even if the zoning board grants a variance, the project will still have to be approved by the planning board.
There will be a public hearing on this topic during the ZBA meeting, according to city planning officials.
Kosta's is looking to add to its bar, thus expanding its space and capacity for patrons. Residents living near the location at 85 Grant Ave. have raised concerns about the proposal, saying the expansion could add to problems in the area with noise and parking.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m., and will take place at Memorial City Hall, 24 South Street.
