SKANEATELES - The Skaneateles girls lacrosse team has struggled with turnovers the past few games.

Of course, that's not an issue when 10 different players find the net.
The Lakers spread the wealth in a 17-4 victory over Homer Friday. Lindsay Angelillo and Maddy Morrissey led the team with three goals each, while Kat Pille, Diane Vitkus and Shelby McNeilly each had two goals. Carly Davis, Aly Davis, Erin Callahan, Claire Motly and Taylor Kerr all finished with a goal. Morrissey, Vitkus, Callahan and Aly Davis each had assists.
“A lot of our players scored,” Skaneateles coach Bridget Marquardt said. “That makes it hard for teams to defend.”
With the early-season troubles well behind them, the Lakers are now focused on finishing the season strong. Skaneateles hasn't taken care of the ball lately, and Marquardt knows that turnovers can be the deciding factor in any playoff game.
“We did better with limiting the turnovers (today),” Marquardt said. “We still have to take better care of the ball, because some teams will capitilize on your turnovers, especially the teams in the playoffs.”
The Lakers were in full control of Thursday's game, jumping out to a 10-0 halftime lead and never letting up on the gas pedal.
“It felt good,” Angelillo said. “We've had a lot of tough games lately and a game like that brings our confidence up. It's a great feeling.”
Heather Mullen and Kendra Murphy each had a save for Skaneateles.
With two games left in the regular season, the Lakers are still focused on their next opponent, but they do know that another Section III, Class C championship is in reach.
“The last couple of years we've gone far and went places,” Angelillo said. “That puts an ‘X' on your back and a lot of the team's goals are to beat us.”
Skaneateles (9-7) plays Marcellus Tuesday then finishes the regular-season slate with a home game against Jordan-Elbridge Friday.
Marquardt and her players know the importance of peaking at the right time and hope that their best play is still ahead of them.
“Everyone made mistakes tonight,” Angelillo added. “But the good thing is they can all be corrected before the playoffs start. If everyone gets mentally prepared we should be there and be able to come out tough.”
