High School Roundup: Wolves tied for first in IAC

The Union Springs boys golf team is now tied with Groton for first place in the IAC, Division III after a win over the Indians 207-217 Monday.
Michael Bean was the medalist, shooting a 38 for the Wolves.

Also leading Union Springs were Eric Hlywa with 39, Tim Morabito with 41, Austin Thomas with 42, and B.J. O'Hara and Mitchell Hares both with a 47.

The Wolves (10-3) play Southern Cayuga at Wells College Golf Course today.

Weedsport 224, Port Byron 236

The four co-medalists were the Warriors' Jason Ryan, Cody Fabian and Jake DeChick who each carded a 43, while Port Byron's Josh Malenick also shot a 43.

Weedsport's Drew Lane shot a 44 and Shawn Grader added a 51, while the Panthers were paced by Andy Leary with a 47, Dan O'Hara and JT Debois both shot a 48 and Adam Malenick finished with a 50.

The Warriors (6-6) travel to Manlius Pebble Hill today while Port Byron (10-3) hosts Fabius-Pompey.

Pulaski 225, Cato-Meridian 247

The Blue Devils' Todd Wilcox carded a 44 and Paul Barbagallo shot a 45.

Marathon 224, Southern Cayuga 230

Jordan Dean and Kyle Hurd-Perez both shot a 45 to pace the Chiefs, while Todd Brooks carded a 46 and Casey Underwood, Ryan Killian and Justin Walter each finished with a 47.

Southern Cayuga (6-6) hosts Union Springs today.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Marcellus 16, Jordan-Elbridge 11

Carrie-Jo Farrugia led the Eagles with six goals, Ella Thorpe and Amanda Wheeler both contributed two goals, Kate Dungey added one goal, and Emily Dillon and Emily Bates both finished with an assist.

Kelsey Richardson recorded 15 saves for Jordan-Elbridge.

SOFTBALL

Cato-Meridian 3, Weedsport 1

Julia Pratt had 12 strikeouts and allowed only one run for the Blue Devils, while earning the win.

Leading Cato-Meridian at the plate, Michelle Townsend contributed two hits with one run and one triple, Chelsea Townsend added one hit, one RBI and two stolen bases, Meghan Meeks recorded one hit and one RBI, and Shayna Marriam finished with one hit.

Jordan Roe got the loss, striking out eight and allowing five hits.

Weedsport' Libby Marsden had one hit, scored and had one stolen base, Cassidy Thompson went 3-for-4 and Biz Chirco added a hit.

Weedsport hosts Fabius-Pompey today.

Liverpool 3, Auburn 0

Ali VanGiesen suffered the loss while striking out three and allowing six hits with no walks.

VanGiesen and Sarah Green both singled.

Kelly Grinnell, Maggie Race and Stefanie Spinney led the Maroons defense, combining to turn two double plays.

Auburn (5-8) travels to Nottingham Wednesday.

Marcellus 15, Skaneateles 7

The Lakers were up 3-2, managing to hold the lead through three innings, but were cut short by some late mistakes.

Emily Devins homered and had three hits, two RBIs and three runs to pace Skaneateles, while Jackie Leslie contributed two hits and Britton Weber went 3-for-4.

Zoe Hilpl suffered the loss.

Skaneateles (2-11) hosts Jordan-Elbridge Wednesday.

BASEBALL

Moravia 9, Spencer-Van Etten 3

Cody Langtry earned his third straight win for the Blue Devils, throwing three strikeouts and allowing four hits.

Also pitching for Moravia were Greg Pasho who got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth. Dillon Langtry closed it out in the seventh.

Pasho went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases to lead the Blue Devils while Dillon Powers had three hits, including a double, and T.J. Powers added two hits with a double.

Moravia (10-6) hosts Trumansburg today.

Tyburn 12, Institute of Technology at Syracuse Central 4

Cody Cottrell earned the win and had nine strikeouts, while Bryan Shaw added five strikeouts.

Leading Tyburn at the plate, Jake Pritchard contributed three hits, Michael Covich went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one double, Shaw added three hits, two RBIs and one double, Cottrell earned four hits, three runs and one double, Dave Pascarella was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Matt Covich doubled and scored three runs.

Brandon Broader played well defensively for the Crusaders.

Tyburn (4-3) hosts the Institute of Technology at Syracuse Central today.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Cato-Meridian 78, Port Byron 61

The Blue Devils won the 4x400m relay (4:51.3) with Tara Pickard, Aubrey Campbell, Julia Lippert and Christina Baird.

Campbell also won the high jump (4-6) and the pole vault (7-0) to help the Blue Devils sweep the field events. Campbell won the 400m (75.4) while Pickard won the 400m hurdles (77.0) and Lippert took first in the triple jump (24-8).

Shelby Klaben earned two wins for Cato-Meridian - in both the shot put (28-8) and the discus (87-0), while Jordan Weir won the 800m (2:57.2) and Britany Rugg finished first in the long jump (11-6).

Port Byron won the 4x800m relay (11:46) with Maggie O'Brien, Christina Rooker, Felicia Darrow and Jen Locastro, while the 4x100m relay team won (57.6) with Kate Riley, Chelsie Ineich, Nikki Loveless and Tiffany Westmiller.

Riley also won the 100m (13.8) and the 200m (29.1) while Cassie Grome took first in the 100m hurdles (18.4), Nina Suarez won the 1500m (5:43) and Locastro took first in the 3000m (12:39).

Cato-Meridian travels to Pulaski Wednesday.

Tully 94, Weedsport 47

Winning for the Warriors were the 4x400m relay team (4:30) of Gabby LaForce, Myriam Repple, Michele Donahue and Erin Daly, while Allison Roosa took first in the shot put (28-8.75), Kaitlin Hammersley won both the discus (89-1.5) and the pole vault (8-0), and Alyssa O'Bryan finished first in the high jump (4-6).

Weedsport (8-2) hosts Bishop Grimes Wednesday.

Groton 50, Southern Cayuga 30

The Chiefs' Emily Heslop contributed two victories - the 100m (14.8) and the 200m (30.5), while Kim Burke won the 1500m (5:40.8).

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Port Byron 87, Cato-Meridian 54

The Panthers won the 4x100m relay (48.3) with Travis Snyder, Ryan Eldridge, Robert Yeomans and Zach Leja, while also taking first in the 4x400m relay (3:56.5) with Leja, Eldridge, Adam Hawker and Luiz Nogueila.

Snyder won the 100m (12.0), Leja won the 200m (25.7), Nogueila finished first in the 400m (66.9) and Yeomans won the shot put (38-6) and the discus (108-1).

Also winning for Port Byron were Christian Cobb who took first in the 1600m (5:01.5), the 800m (2:16.6) and the 3200m (11:15.5), Demetrius Milezkowskij won both the 110m hurdles (17.5) and the 400m hurdles (66.9), and Mike Borst won the triple jump (35-8).

The Blue Devils' Dominick Giacolone took first in the pole vault (9-6), while Tommy Klaben won both the high jump (5-6) and the long jump (15-9).

The Blue Devils will compete at Pulaski Wednesday while the Panthers host Fabius-Pompey today.

Tully 94, Weedsport 47

The Warriors' Zach Nevidomsky won the triple jump (37-10.5) and the high jump (5-10), Craig Mietz finished first in the 400m (54.8) and Jesse Schooley won the 200m (24.3).

Weedsport (8-2) hosts Bishop Grimes Wednesday.

Groton 60, Southern Cayuga 39

The Chiefs collected wins by Griffon Farlow in the 1600m (4:55.5), Alex Schmitt finished first in the 800m (2:07.5), Luke Cook won the shot put (35-10) and Kyle Howe took first in the discus (98-2.5).

Southern Cayuga is now 0-4.
