Despite its 199-220 loss to Union Springs, the Moravia boys golf team qualified for the Section IV tournament for the first time in at least five years.
“I thought we had a chance going into the season,” Blue Devils' coach Fred Ott said. “I was pleasantly surprised by it though, they all came through this time.”
The Wolves also scored a season low as a team, led by Eric Hlywa who had four birdies on his path to his season-low 33, also making him the medalist of the match.
Also leading Union Springs were Michael Bean who shot a 38, Austin Thomas shot a 39, Tim Morabito shot a 44, and BJ O'Hara and Mitchell Hares both finished with a 45.
Pacing Moravia were Jeff Alvord and Colby Bancroft who both carded a 40, Chip Withers and Zack Wilkinson both shot a 46 and Josh Burhans shot a 48.
“They all shot within themselves and all came out with good scores,” Ott said. “Having them all shoot at their best at the same time is what made the difference.”
Union Springs (8-3) travels to Marathon today while the Blue Devils host Southern Cayuga Friday.
