The Republicans will become extinct unless they can come up with a better direction and vision for the party other than "Tax Cuts, Torture, Tax Cuts, Torture."
Now that we all have digital TV, can we please get to watch the Buffalo Bills, without those irritating blackouts?
I thought Cayuga County was broke --- two new positions over $100,000 a year and people are losing their jobs every day. What are the county legislators thinking?
In today's world does it really matter if a union employee or a union president harasses a company manager?

Thing is, if you have it to waste, or count it as "entertainment," -- then good for you. The problem is that there are more people who really CAN'T afford to blow money on the entertainment value, always convinced they are going to "win big" -- who are victims -- no one more than their families. (I know of at a least one regular here who is on the verge of losing a home thanks to her husband's gambling his income away in hopes of a "big win.")
Me, I've never been to a casino and have zero interest in starting now, nor bringing one -- along with its negative baggage -- into the area. "

Most people I know, know that they are not going to win in a casino in the long run. They go for the glitter and the excitement and being pampered.
Unless you are a professional gambeler, you will loose. They don't build billion dollar casino's bt them loosing $$$.
Most casino, have fine restaurants and spa's, golf courses etc. I have been to reunions at casino's where some of the people did not gamble and yet they had a great time.
Karl, I was in Vegas when the MOB ran it and I have been there since they have been gone. I felt a safer with the MOB.

FREBUS, I grew up in Scranton--CLarks Summit, to be correct--just outside the city limits, like Camillus to Syracuse. I know ALLL about Scranton and the organized crime there.
Ever hear of Russel Buffalino? The mob boss who lived in Pittston? Again, closer than Baldwinsville to Syracuse.
The man who had Hoffa killed.
Ever since his reign, Scranton has been a hotbed of mob activity. And the guy down there who runs the casino's is a guy who shall remain nameless, because honestly, I fear the guy's reach. Suffice it to say that he was just exculpated--"teflon-Don" John Gotti style--for a BIG case of illegal activities involving casinos and land purchases. He was guilty as sin, and there's also a Catholic priest tied in with the whole corrupt affair--and all of a sudden the charges go "poof!"!. Unbelievable.
Mob corruption, plain and simple. And THAT'S why there's 13 new casino's in Scranton area.
It's the means in which to suck the last bit of income from people who either reside in the land of false hopes, or people who have a real addiction to gambling. It ruins personal finances, and families. I would NEVER condone the building of a casino--in fact, when I become President, I'm closing them ALL down. "

I don't think that the MS USA pageant ever wanted to be involved in such an imbroglio, when it is supposed to be representative of ALL America, inclusively.
As far as the ACLU, I can't figure them out myself, but I would think that they have bigger fish to fry than this defending this Silicone Tart on a platform which opposes much of their own work?

In fact, the gay rights groups should celebrate the right to free speach, even if they don't agree with the comments. I was questioning the double standard. I am all for the pictures too. It's like a catechism -- you will now be forced to publicly demonstrate that you have accepted political correctness as your God and not deviate from the prescribed points of view. It's coerced "consensus."

Have you been to Atlantic City lately?
Before the casinos came in the city was a real dump. Over the past 25 years or so , the city has built all sorts of new housing, where the slums were. There are many fine restaurants and shopping areas that are not associated with gambeling. Thousands of people are employed and most make a better than average wages. The state makes a ton of $$$$on the casino's.
Most dealers who work at the Turning Stone Casino make in excess of $40,000 per year. Imagine what 2,000 to 3,000 people employed by a casino in Cayuga County, could to the bottom line.
Each dollar an employee receives is circulated an average of five times.
What a shot in the arm for the local economy.
People will say ther will be more crime and social costs. We live in a Prison City. We already have those costs, and as unemployment increases so to will the crime, drug abuse and other social costs. "

People want a "magic pill" which will solve all their economic troubles. This country has been digging its own hole for generations and it's not going to be fixed with any magic pill cure, and certainly not one with so many nasty side-effects as a casino would bring. "

It's the ones which are so bad you can't decipher the meaning after attempting to read the message 3 times which set me off. When lack of grammar and spelling skills lead to a loss of the ability to communicate thoughts and ideas, that's a sad thing.
Plus, I don't think anyone enjoys having to stop and re-read and re-read again, having to pick each and every word out of the jumble to make any sense of a post. That's not really on the same par with accidentally slipping an extra "s" into Asthma -- a word one isn't likely to confuse with anything else. "

We hold these truths to be self-evident ... that except for those who have been FOUND GUILTY under due process of law, all people have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness -- which precludes unlawful incarceration and mental and physical torture.
According to our most basic principles of Freedom, the principles which set our form of government above those which went before, all men (i.e. humans, male and female, of all colors, religions, etc) are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights -- innocent until PROVEN guilty is founded on these inherent rights of every living person.
Prisoners held at Gitmo without charges, without legal representation, without any contact with the outside world, without trial and certainly without a conviction of guilt, are being deprived of their basic human RIGHTS, as laid down in our own Constitution as inalienable for all men, not just for citizens of our country. "
Farmer's Gal wrote on May 7, 2009 6:02 AM:
If the politicians you mention knew and SAID nothing, then they are culpable to a degree. If they knew and DID nothing, well, you'd have to look at the circumstances and see if they were in a position to do anything. Lots of Americans KNEW what was going on and had no more power than to SAY something publicly about it -- which many of us have done.
But those who ordered, defended and condoned waterboarding are not merely culpable, but GUILTY of serious wrong-doing. Torture is not a morally superior position -- it's an activity carried out by vicious scumbags, whether they are of Arabic heritage or blue-blooded Americans. Further, to torture those who have not received due process of law -- who have not been charged, but less found guilty of ANYTHING -- who are, by definition of the most basic laws and rights on which this country was founded, INNOCENT until proven guilty -- is a very serious crime indeed.
Why do you think they keep calling black white when it comes to pretending waterboarding isn't torture? Because to admit the truth would be to admit they are guilty. They know they are. "

And YOU give us the endless deflecting and boolship of bringing up completely unrelated issues as if the totality of Evil in the world somehow excuses a genuine, prosecutable Crime Against Humanity? Do not assume that because a place looks run down it's because the people who live there are lazy slobs and don't care.
For a while, my mom had this wonderful neighbor. His mom had been in a similar position before she passed away, and he promised himself he would help others like her if he could. He was a godsend. Well, kids, if she didn't have the money to fix the place up, she SURE didn't have money to pay the ticket AND clean the place up.
Maybe some people in Auburn truly are cheap, lazy slobs. I know I hear stories of slumlords. We even have some out in the boonies (check that mess coming around the corner in East Genoa some time!)
