It's one of those weeks when I have a handful of items to share with readers about new developments at The Citizen and auburnpub.com:

• The Citizen has officially gone mobile.

Last week we launched m.auburnpub.com, a Web site developed for efficient viewing on mobile wireless devices such as cell phones.

We've heard from readers who have enjoyed the auburnpub.com Web site about the challenges of viewing pages on their phones, and now we've got a product that streamlines things so they can get the top headlines, a quick check of the local weather and even a regional calendar of events.

The site just launched, so we're working out a bug here and there, but it's still a major improvement in terms of ease-of-use for mobile users.

• Starting this week, we have a new features editor overseeing the planning and production of our Lake Life pages.

David Wilcox has stepped into that role, and he is eager to build on the solid foundation that's been put in place by his predecessor. Few newspapers the size of The Citizen have features sections with the amount and breadth of local content that you find in Lake Life. David has been a big part of Lake Life's success. As a features writer and the coordinator of the Go weekend entertainment guide, he's worked diligently to bring engaging coverage to our readers.

David is filling the post previously held by Ashley Hanry, who has taken a position working on a community journalism project through Syracuse University. Plenty of readers and community leaders have worked quite well with Ashley through the years, and David is eager to continue those positive, productive working relationships.

• On page A9 of Monday's paper, we launched a new column that will run in that space every other Monday into the fall.

“OWL Watch” is a column that leaders of the Owasco Watershed Lake Association will write to inform readers on a wide range of issues related to the health of the watershed. Owasco Lake's well-documented water quality challenges deserve special attention, and we're fortunate to have a group such as OWLA willing to put in the time to share information with readers.

This week's column dealt with a basic explanation of how watersheds work, and future columns will build from there.
